Would you guys like some kind of system where you can tag/alert people in posts? Another forum I go on has that option where you can type like "@username" and it'll send "username" a message with a link to the post. Seems pretty useful to me.
Just wondering if such a thing would be worth making.
It would be completely opt-out-able, of course. It would be an internal thing unrelated to social networking sites in any way.

Re: Notifications
nah. it's bad enough that Twitter, Facebook, tumblr, deviantART, and YouTube all have it.
if we want to alert somebody of a post, we could just tell them.

Re: Notifications
Hm, that's true. I suppose we have an email subscription option as well that tells you when things have gotten replies.

Re: Notifications
Actually, I really like the tagging idea. I'm not sure how often I would use it, but it would be very useful.

Re: Notifications
but my only thing is, why can't *you* just message them with a link to the post? i don't see how it's useful on an internet forum.

Re: Notifications
It's quicker and easier. The advantage I've found that it has is that if you're talking about someone and want them to know about it, you just tag them, and they know to join the conversation.
It's kind of like in real life when you're tuning out a conversation and then suddenly hear your name and jump back in.
