fun fact: North Korea holds elections. and it's not just for show. everyone who is eligible to vote (just about everyone) is asked to vote, and that's how they tell who has fled the country. they sometimes give the family a chance to try to get the escaped family member back into the country, and if they don't they get punished, but if they do, the charges are waived. it's a clever albeit morally disgraceful way of keeping track of the population.
