another old Spyro site uncovered!

edit: https://web.archive.org/web/20170227212 … pyro1.com/

i know the layout looks really bad, but you can still navigate it. especially if you maximize the window that appears. in fact, i really recommend that.

something interesting is in the top-right corner where it has the Spyro logo and screenshots of levels, one of the screenshots shows Dark Hollow with a different sky!
https://web.archive.org/web/20041227054 … _right.gif

something else interesting is something from the "Characters" section. lol:

Characters - Spyro
Chargrilled lamb anyone? Baaah! Spyro is not without his vanity, though - he was once seen at a party wearing horn extensions with which he was hoping to impress all the ladies. The only look-in he got all night was when an old flame singed his nostrils.

Flash in the pan stuff - Spyro still needs some schooling in his pulling technique.

the overall tone throughout this site is just strange, if not funny, to me. tongue what do you guys think? edit: here's another good example of that:
"The trouble for the dragons was that some people get very jealous, and Gnasty Gnorc, the smelly, wart-ridden sponger was one of them. "

from Beast Makers: "Gnasty Gnorc has filled the place up with some pretty bizarre Gnorcic creations of his own, and they all seem to have very large mouths. . . genetic engineering the Gnasty way." XD

this site really does have a strange tone to it. what am i reading?!

Man, if this was still considered professional web design I would be super successful right now. .-.

That's really cool. I wasn't aware of any of the marketing they did for Spyro when I was young, so it's interesting to see this stuff now.

Ooh, I remember this site smile
The actual site is still up btw http://www.spyro1.com/
I think the Dark Hollow image might just be a normal screenshot, but with it's hue shifted a bit. It looks pretty much like normal when I shift the hue by -40 in gimp.

Re: another old Spyro site uncovered!

Something tells me that whoever wrote this website didn't have English as their first language.

The image on the left is confusing. The foreground looks like Magic Crafters, yet the background looks like Artisans?
Also, the main site that said it required Shockwave to open downloaded some file to my computer titled "spyro.dcr."

that's quite rude

I looked up how to open .dcr files, and could not find any methods on how to open it successfully. Apparently it's used as Kodak cameras' raw image format, but that's all I know.
Also, why does it require Shockwave in the first place? This is the entire source of the main page:

Re: another old Spyro site uncovered!

It requires Shockwave because the website is dynamic and interactive on a small scale. There is for example a sheep moving past the screen that you click on to burn. (If I remember it right) I'm sure there was something more, possibly with a dragon statue, but I can't remember it at the moment. tongue
The image on the left is probably just a collage to show off the varied world themes. It contains both a Magic Crafters level and Toasty, a Peace Keepers level and Artisans Home, with a sky that could be from Cliff Town.

Edit:
I ran the website in IE and installed shockwave.
Sparx follows the mouse cursor in the collage landscape, with his typical random movement, and scales as you move the mouse up and down, into and back out of the scene, to make it seem 3d.
When you click, the mouse breathes fire.
There are several things to burn: A Town Square bull charging out of the cave and towards the "camera", tents from Peace Keepers Home, a sheep bump-bump-bumping past the screen, and a thief running in a zigzag "into" the scene.
Animated text appears when you move the mouse over the dragon bases, which is the site menu.
No actual crystallized dragons. I misremembered tongue

Re: another old Spyro site uncovered!

Sorry about the bump, but this is important.

The spyro1.com domain appears to have been hijacked, and now seems to be a Chinese spam website. The spyro-yearofthedragon.com domain is also defunct.
