Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
No, the original Spyro is gone I'm afraid. The only way Spyro would ever make a come back is if Insomniac bought the rights back, and that just isn't going to happen. Insomniac stated there is really only so much you can do with Spyro.

Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
Okay, I'm sorry, but remember when I said that The Legend of Spyro is an inspiration based on Spyro: Shadow Legacy? To be honest, I have to kind of agree with Spyro&CynderForever999's opinion. There should be a game, or series, that combines the combat and cinematics of TLoS with the humor and the platforming of the older games. However, hate to say it, but Malefor would need to come back to the equation. Not only that, TLoS Spyro isn't cocky; he isn't the type of dragon who would be sarcastic to everything others say. He wouldn't be the type of dragon who'd just dive his horns into things mindlessly, unlike CLASSIC Spyro. He's sarcastic and cocky, so he has much more room for humor, but he also started using combat during Spyro: Shadow Legacy. As soon as that game came out, though, they decided, "We just made the crappiest Spyro game EVER. We have to cover it up with a game...no, a series, with similar elements. We just have to ditch the Shadowstone and rename the Sorcerer.
"We also have redo Spyro's looks. He looks too cocky for an origin story. Heck, we also need to replace the adult dragons, ditch the rabbit, and ditch those two smaller dragons. Why did they put them there? What's the good with them?" That was a stupid decision, but it's what made TLoS work.
I kind of like the TLoS elements, now that I think about it. It was an attempt for. Spyro to catch up with the modern world of gaming. He crashed hard in DotD, but the whole series showed potential.
I'm thinking that the TLoS elements should now go into classic Spyro. You see, what I figured out is that classic Spyro is a dragon that lives in a modern, if not slightly futuristic, world. His first games always had modern synthesized music, and, in Spyro the Dragon, there was an entire steel sea base world that had heavy military-like arsenal and weaponry.
In Spyro 2, there was a level with harmless electrical fences, and there was another level that was highly computerized and futuristic (and Spyro needed to help robots from evil pigs with rockets on themselves).
(Hurricos, Summer Forest Level)
(Metropolis, Winter Tundra Level)
In Spyro 3, there was a halo-graphic skateboard platform that would give Spyro a skateboard when he walks through it.
Plus, there was another controllable character who had a laser gun.
In A Hero's Tail, there's even teleport devices and big machine balls. Heck, Blink ended up being another character with a laser weapon attached to one of his gloves.
My point is, Classic Spyro's world is a world that relies more on machinery than magic, but that doesn't mean the series aren't connected in a way. NONE of that stuff above was supposed to exist in The Legend of Spyro, which was supposed to be entirely medieval, thus making TLoS Spyro and CYNDER medieval, but guess what? A New Beginning had that *bleep* train level.
But what should happen in a revival game? Well, since Spyro: Shadow Legacy never got a true sequel, we can go ahead and make a sequel that makes TLoS tie WITH it. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...
SPYRO ENCHANTED
It's a three part series that kicks off with classic Spyro, who's wearing a stone amulet, called the Shadowstone, a double dragon stone amulet that lets Spyro morph in between his normal world and a dark dimension known as the. Shadow Realm, waking up in a random place in a forest. Hunter, who has a strange scaly left hand and sometimes turns into other animals, takes Spyro to this part of a cave that they can only enter if they use the Shadowstone. There, they see another purple dragon, who's trapped in a large crystal. When Spyro touches it, just to try freeing the dragon, the world starts crumbling, and just when Spyro was going to tell Hunter that they needed to get out of there, Spyro sees that Hunter turned into the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer chains Spyro to the ground, cuts the string that holds Spyro's Shadowstone, and leaves with it, leaving Spyro doomed in explosion...that actually never happened. Spyro was dreaming.
SERIES OBJECTIVE
The object of the series is to collect four crystal moons (shapes of crescents), four crystal suns, and four crystal stars, all called "Soul Gems," before the Sorcerer does. All of the crystal artifacts fit inside Spyro’s Shadowstone, a special stone that allows Spyro to travel between two dimensions: the normal world and a dark dimension known as the Shadow Realm. When Spyro collects all of the crystal artifacts, Spyro’s Shadowstone will allow Spyro to go to the center of the planet so that he can release the actual bodies of Cynder and HER Spyro (did I mention that Cynder will pair up with classic Spyro as a spirit, and that the Sorcerer's source of power is TLoS Spyro's spirit?), who trapped themselves in a crystal membrane that keeps the planet intact, without damaging the planet or accidentally freeing Malefor, which is the SORCERER'S goal. If Malefor is freed, Malefor will be able to carry on a legacy he had waited a thousand years to continue. During the entire series, Spyro will often need to morph in between the normal dimension and the Shadow Realm to pass through certain dimensional walls or to collect minor artifacts that only show up in one of the dimensions.
Flying will also be a major focus on the franchise, but I noticed that it would kill most of the platforming we know and love. In order to keep the platforming in check, Spyro will often be paired with a flightless character. Flightless characters will HAVE to take up platforming, because they can't even fly!
If that doesn't give fans the old Spyro platforming that they know and love, dragon hatchlings will also be controllable. They will not be able to fly, but they can glide, so it's a plus.
I also want to do an origin story that involves classic Spyro's parents.
Plus, I also want to give bigger roles to Ember and Flame, and I also want to bring back Elora and Agent 9.
GENERAL DETAILS ON THE SERIES:
Part 1: Spyro: Twisted Darkness is when Spyro would need to get the crystal moons. At the same time, he needs to figure out how to get a long unvisited kingdom, called the Forbidden Realms, back to its former glory. It had been in a civil war for over 300 years, and a rebel force had established themselves in the Shadow Realm to protect themselves against the brutal government (so, yeah, its main city, Klontrill, is more prominent in the Shadow Realm). This is also the first game where flying will ACTUALLY HE THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE GAME!!!!
Also, a small part of Spyro's origin story will be revealed. It won't be in the prologue, but it'll be hinted throughout the game. It also reveals that the Sorcerer's source of power is the spirit of the elder Spyro. The younger Spyro never gets to free the spirit, but Blink ends up building an artificial body for the spirit of Cynder. In the actual game, though, the spirit of the elder Spyro won't show until the end of the game.
(Description inscribed on the back of the unit’s packaging: Shadow Lurkers force Spyro to leave the land he'd once known and to enter the unknown. However, when a medieval spirit tells him of their leader's plan, Spyro realizes that this war isn't a gem frenzy.)
Part 2: Spyro: Shadow Arsenal is when Spyro will be able to go back to the Dragon Realms so he can find the four crystal suns. However, most of its inhabitants are missing in the regular world, and only a few were lucky enough to NOT be caught in the Shadow Realm. Spyro needs to figure out a way to bring all of them back into the regular world while still being able to get the suns (SPOILER: SPYRO MEETS IGNITUS IN THIS GAME). During the game, bigger parts of the origin backstory are revealed, also revealing that Spyro used to have a GIRLFRIEND (Skyler is her name). He lost her 40 years ago, but has found her again, and now will do anything to protect her, just like she did the last day he was able to see her (she's a member of the dragon military, except that most of her members are now dead or missing) (ANOTHER SPOILER: SKYLER GOES WITH SPYRO TO MEET IGNITUS, BUT SPYRO AND SKYLER THINK OF IGNITUS AS THE CHRONICLER AT FIRST. CYNDER GOES WITH THEM, AND SHE BECOMES SHOCKED TO SEE IGNITUS AS THE CHRONICLER, IGNITUS BECOMES SHOCKED TO SEE CYNDER ALIVE, BUT HE'S EVEN MORE SURPIRSED TO FINALLY SEE THE YOUNGER SPYRO).
In the end of this part, Spyro also FINALLY gets to free the spirit of the elder Spyro, but Skyler gets critical damage. She barely survives her injuries, and Spyro was on a worried level of OVER 9000!!!!!!
(Description inscribed on the back of the unit’s packaging: Having to have restored the Forbidden Realms to its former glory, Spyro returns to the Dragon Realms for the next set of crystal artifacts. Needless to say, he had no hint to know that his prized kingdom changed.)
Part 3: Spyro: Enchanted Starfall is the final game in the series. The backstory is completed, but this time, Spyro will need to periodically travel between the Dragon Realms and the Forbidden Realms, because he learns that he missed those crystal stars, and would need to use other unfound artifacts to get into the ancient chambers. As soon as he does, he gets to go for the center of the planet to save the actual bodies of Cynder and HER Spyro (at the beginning of the game, he will be renamed as "Blaze," just so there isn't any confusion), but then the Sorcerer finally gets to the modern-world Spyro. He had been looking for him during the last three adventures, and then he does something to Spyro so he can get his Shadowstone, and by the time Spyro is about to get it back, the world starts going apart again. Malefor is also freed and more powerful than ever before.
AND THE ENDING WILL NOT BE SPOILED.
(Description inscribed on the back of part 3’s packaging: Spyro must now travel between the Dragon Realms and the Forbidden Realms, as the final set of crystal artifacts were revealed to be kept magically secret. During this time, Spyro must realize his fate, if he is to save the world.)
They will all be free-roam games, and the whole gem concept will return. Not as status healers, but currency. Also, status can be healed by either using red health ores, using dragon magic, or by using red butterflies (the Spyro equivalent of RPG potions). You can buy butterflies from kiosks, or you can get them from certain enemies, which also tend to drop the ores (the ores are on-spot and are used the moment you get them).
Dragon magic will be restored through green ores and green butterflies.
Experience is gained through blue ores only. When you get them, you can upgrade your abilities.
Gem thieves will also come back and sometimes randomly steal a certain amount of gems from you if you're not in a mission or a mission area. If the thief gets away, your gems are lost, but if you take down the thief, you recover your gems and get a gem bonus. In some cases, you can also get an item that's good for later use.

Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
Well, to be honest with you, I end up seeing so many new pictures of Cynder pop up in Spyro deviantART groups almost every day, which means that she's a well respected character, now. In fact, she seems to be more respected than Ember and Flame. If a new Spyro game comes out, and the game doesn't involve Cynder, people will be like, "Dafuqk is this? No Cynder? Just this macho Spyro?" (that's what TLoS fans will call classic Spyro, in my opinion.) Yet, if another Spyro game with TLoS Cynder DOES come out, the game will be all on the TLoS canon. Heck, it'll be even weird to imagine a standalone 4th TLoS game; a lot of people thought Dawn of the Dragon ended with Spyro and Cynder dying in the middle of the planet, and that the whole world was put back together again, but that's because they didn't see the epilogue.
I'm trying to explain that, with my idea, since the cocky, arrogant, "I'll just do whatever the *bleep* I want; I don't care what you think" Spyro will be in the game, we can finally see humor in a Spyro game again. Plus, we can possibly have one I the most innovative platformers to date; the main HUD world I want to make, Klontrill, a multi-level city, will encourage platforming, since elevators won't exist and because some stairs will be wrecked. This will leave the flightless characters to rely on poles, hover-cars, broken "stepladder" platforms, or whatever else to go on a higher or a lower level. Spyro will have an advantage since he's a FLYING DRAGON.
To be honest, not everyone will agree with me. I can see that from your response. I have a fanfic version of Spyro: Twisted Darkness, though. It should at least give you more in-depth details.

Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
Honestly, I don't think we will.
I suppose when Skylanders loses profit (which I think it will eventually - Many parents are already giving up on the series) it's possible that another company may pick him up, though even if he did get a new game... It could be possible that people will complain because it's 'not Insomniac'.

Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
Stranger things have happened in the game industry than Spyro getting a reboot. If you went back to the 90s and told someone that Sega would be making exclusive games for Nintendo consoles in 10 years, you would be laughed out of the building. No one thought Microsoft was capable of building a good console in 2001, and within a few years the Xbox brand became one of the most recognizable game machines in the West. Anything could happen.
That being said...
I don't think it would end up being like the original trilogy because games like that aren't as popular as they used to be. The biggest obstacle to a reboot is Skylanders' success. Activision has made a boat load of cash off it, and as long as they're still raking it in, there's little chance of them risking a remake or selling off the rights, since a failure could hurt their brand.
I could see Nintendo's upcoming NFC series and Disney Infinity pushing Skylanders out of the market, which could open up possibilities a few years down the road. It certainly wouldn't have to be developed by Insomniac for it to be a good game.

Re: Do you think real Spyro will ever come back?
Speaking of wondering if things will ever come back, hello!
I think what troubles most people is that it's not likely that we will ever get exactly what we want. Game industry seems to be generalizing, and it's becoming less lucrative to make games with already existing IP. If it was lucrative, they would be doing so. Right now there are only a few lucrative IPs that keep selling, and almost none of them are characters like Spyro.
But here's what I think. A new Spyro game is improbable to come out soon. But what is improbable in a few years is inevitable in a few decades. Don't sweat it. Probably the moment you stop thinking about it is the moment something will come up, which was how Skylanders was for me in 2010 (although I know that game is the bane of some people).
As for me, I'm waiting so contently that I'm not ever around that much, and that's just the truth. If you're wondering about me (probably not), I'm still a brony and I'm into Elder Scrolls Online. I haven't played a Spyro game in about a year, but the dragon is still the best dragon ever.

I really just want a nice 3D platformer. Doesn't have to be Spyro. I'm getting bored of all the side scrollers.

Yeah, what's with all of the new sidescrollers, but no 3D platformers lately? When 3D hit the market, 3D platformers were the *bleep*, but now we're going back to the late 80s and early 90s. I'm guessing it's probably because indie developers can make non-3D games a lot quicker and easier.
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Hi. Does anyone know that if this information from Wikipedia is true? I know Wikipedia isn't very reliable and I can't find the information anywhere else. If it is, Insomniac will have Spyro's rights back in 2015. It may not be a new game, but maybe a remake?!

Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, it's almost definitely not true. Someone made a similar edit on the Spyro series page, and I just reverted it yesterday because they had no source. Someone else was also recently messing with the dates under the publishers section of the Spyro page, claiming Activision gave up ownership to Sony in 2014.
