What the heck IS Ripto?

I'm guessing he's probably a dinosaur.....right? But he doesn't look like one. What is ripto? Is it explained in a manual somewhere? An interview? What is he???
If it's never said, what do YOU think he is?

In the German version I guess they call him a gnome, but last time I checked gnomes don't have horns growing out of their heads. tongue I'm gonna go with dinosaur.

Or maybe he's part gnorc and part dragon, and his dragon parent abandoned him, and that's why he hates dragons! yikes

He does kind of look like them, now that you mention it. Gives some credibility to the theory that he's supposed to be a dinosaur.

I think wikia says he is a Riptoc which is some kind of dinosaur, same species as crush and gulp.

Maybe Ripto is an unknown create meaning he is made up! Or maybe he is an animal cross with another animal. I don't know, just my opinion.
