Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/v … -that.html
Sony CEO Andrew House has expressed interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash Bandicoot license. However since Activision owns those franchises now, who knows how this will turn out, especially with Spyro's success in Skylanders.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
Well, let's hope something will grow from this. There's could be Skylanders and Original Spyro series, that could be the best, because than the companies earn more money, and The fans are happy.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
Definitely interesting news. I think a Crash revival is much more likely since he's not currently involved in anything. It would probably be confusing for the brand image to have two completely different Spyros in different games at the same time.
I hope people don't read too much into this, though. (Looking at you, person who keeps editing the developer and publisher information on the Spyro Wikipedia page, whoever you are. ) If I'm reading this correctly, House himself never directly references Spyro or Crash. I can't tell if "Will we see a Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon revival anytime soon?" was a question directly addressed to him or if the author just assumed he meant Spyro and Crash.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
Sounds promising, but I doubt anything Spyro-related would happen unless Activision decided to sell off the license for Spyro. A new Crash game made by Naughty Dog though? That would be pretty sweet. Hooray for baseless hype!

That's what I was thinking too. People can write articles just to twist people's words. Hopefully that wasn't the case.

a lot of people seem to be missing the vagueness here. not necessarily on this site, just in general. he never confirmed a new game, just that it's an idea they're not completely rejecting.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
Razz actually made a similar topic back in darkSpyro. I read every post there, and then I responded with a ridiculously long post. Here's the original:
I've actually read everything that you guys said. I've taken your opinions to consideration, and I'm just going to say this:
I know it's going to be hard for Sony to buy back the rights for Crash and Spyro. I know that Spyro's a "happy part" of Skylanders now, but that doesn't mean that Spyro can't make it back to his own franchise. I think it's unwise to completely go back to the beginning, now. Who wants to see the roots of something these days? It's like you're trying to get a child to look at and admire the roots of a tree that you liked when you were little. That just won't cut it. We'd have to stick with the latest updates. Downgrades (like with Sega's recent Sonic games, excluding Boom) are just not affordable anymore.
However, I'm hoping that, if those two guys DO go back to Sony, the assigned devs will at least bring a taste of the roots into action. What I'm saying is that the classic versions of both characters come back, and they will have bits of elements from every single one of their classic games, but they also have the abilities of their later-gen games (Crash still gets Titans, but not too often, and Spyro gets the multiple destructive elements that TLoS Spyro got). This will also mean that Crash still wears the tattoos, but both of the earlier two Spyros will need to team up at some point, (though, hearing myself now, the devs might not take the Shadowstone into consideration). To REALLY give that nostalgic kick, the devs should introduce important characters that are younger than the star characters (some toddler bandicoot for Crash's game, and dragon hatchlings for Spyro's game). You know, we have Crash still fight like a man, and we give TLoS elements to classic Spyro, but Crash and Spyro will pair with others who will have their earlier abilities. This way, we can still have a bit of the roots experience.
And I know you guys would want the guys to go back to their original devs, but, let's face it... Naughty Dog has been focusing on cinematic action, so since Crash has been more comedic with his later games, Crash wouldn't be suitable for Naughty Dog anymore. Crash would be more suitable for Insomniac, who's been squeezing in as much humor as possible with Ratchet and Clank (and continuing to do so with Sunset Overdrive). Since Insomniac's been that way, and since they ran out of ideas for Spyro, they wouldn't take Spyro back in. Plus, Spyro's been on the cinematic action route, so, ironically, he'd be suitable for Naughty Dog instead.
If Activision really won't give the guys up, then I'm thinking that Sony would need to break their rules and promise multi-platform games for the guys. What Activision doesn't even realize is that, if they want to let devs bring back Crash and Spyro in their own games, they could actually promote the characters and their upcoming games by having them become playable Skylanders characters. Hell, to further promote Crash and Spyro's games, Activision can do this thing in which the players collect enough portal crystals to temporarily play as Skylanders in the Crash and Spyro games. The bonus will be a temptation to Skylanders players of all ages. I know you guys know me to kind of dislike Skylanders, but I think that, if any of this happens, it might work. It's a crazy idea, but it might work.

I don't think anyone's being overly optimistic about it. I doubt it will happen, but that doesn't take the fun out of speculation.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
I don't really care which company gets ahold of Spyro and I don't really associate with Sony anymore and would like Spyro to be multi-plat, but anything to rescue Spyro and co. from oblivion is good enough. I'm happy another publisher still cares about Spyro but we all know greedy Activision won't even lend them the license for HD remakes let alone sell them it for new games. Activision is the black-hole of gaming. Even Sony basically says that in this interview.

Like I've said elsewhere really. It's nice to hear this, but I'm not getting my hopes up, since companies say this all the time and often nothing comes of it.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
Activision owns both franchises, but they are doing NOTHING for the Crash series, PERIOD. If Sony wanted to buy the Spyro license, Activison wouldn't take any offer, because Skylanders is doing extremely well in terms of sales and reviews, and I can understand them not wanting to give it up. HOWEVER, they are doing NOTHING with Crash, they would gain more money if they sold Crash back to Sony then making their own game that they wouldn't give two s**ts about. They are more interested in the sales then the consumers opinion on their games. With their logic fixated basically on sales, Crash will never come back. I mean, how many copies of Crash: Mind Over Mutant were sold? Not to say the game is good or bad, but they look at that and automatically think Crash is done. Sorry, just had to rant. We will NEVER see a new Crash game, EVER AGAIN. The day they announce a new Crash game, is the day I find out what's on that island in Midnight Mountain, so NEVER. Sorry, rant over...sugar rush...hold me...
PS. I may like Crash a teensy tiny bit more than Spyro...please don't shoot...

I can agree with that to a certain extent. While a modern 3D platformer Spyro might be cool, I just don't see it living up to the hype--nostalgia glasses and all that. Also, I doubt there's much interest in Spyro internally at Sony anymore. Their last Spyro title was 14 years ago after all.
I think Crash was overall a more popular character, and I would be interested to see what Sony could do with it. Though either game would be on PS4, so meh.

Sometimes I still don't understand how that's true. I mean, I know that even his Mutant games did okay, better than the TLoS games, but, really, I don't 100% understand how that's true.
And am I the only one here who thinks that Superflame-like gunplay elements would go GREAT for Spyro?

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
I was more talking about "the old days" on PS1 since both series got their start there and most of their fans came from Spyro 1-3 and Crash 1-3. When I talk to someone about games I played as a kid I always mention Spyro and Crash, and most people know Crash better, assuming they had a Playstation and not N64 when they were young. Some only knew Spyro because he was that demo included with their Crash game. Both series don't really have much of a following anymore (aside from Skylanders I suppose). It probably just seems to you that Spyro has more fans since you hang around Spyro fan sites.

Re: Sony showing interests in bringing back the Spyro and Crash license
It's a little sad that Spyro was a sellout in Skylander, and that as soon as the game became popular, they just kind of tossed him aside as secondary.
I honestly think that if activision gave Spyro more games, be it with classic Spyro, or maybe even TLoS Spyro (Considering the fact that Cynder is in Skyrim), they would refuel the hype that got Spyro fans into Skylander. To me, it would seem like a win-win situation.
