Recapitulation in the Music
I've never noticed this before in all my years of playing Spyro the Dragon, but just recently I noticed that a few of the tracks in this game echo the sounds of the main theme. Apparently this musical tool is called recapitulation. So far I've found it in Toasty, Beast Makers Home Theme, and Jacques. I wonder if Stewart Copeland slipped this into other tracks as well? Perhaps it's even in all of them somewhere!
So, here's the main theme. The part that is repeated in other tracks starts at 0:10.
Here it is in Toasty starting at 1:23.
And in the Beast Makers Home Theme at 1:37.
And finally in Jacques at 0:21. It's in there again at 1:29 (a really slowed down version).
I think this is super neat! Stewart Copeland is a musical genius! We should keep our ears open and see if we can find it in other tracks.

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
Many, many soundtracks do this, and I love it when they do. I always notice when it's done, and it's a great tool in music. It gives the content a great sense of reflection. I'll think about it for a bit and see if it's in any of the other tracks.
Edit:
A similar tune is used in Metalhead at 0:30

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
It does give a great sense of reflection. I feel like that's why all of the tracks on Spyro 1 have such a collective feeling to them. Each one is so distinctive, but they are all tied together.
Also, awesome find! I hope it's in all the tracks somewhere. That would just be so neat!

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
You can hear it lightly in the background of Blowhard at 2:41
I've also noticed that another part of the main theme, the main chorus, is also repeated in several tracks throughout the game.
at 0:02
It's repeated in Wild Flight, and pitched up a bit slightly later in the chorus.

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
I always loved that about this soundtrack. I think the recapitulation really helps bring the worlds together into one really cohesive experience. Even though each level is separated by a portal, they always fit into their respective homeworld biome, and each homeworld had its own specific sound--all held together by the musical similarities. You can hear it in the bass lines too.
I love this game.

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
so that's the word for it. i've noticed certain bands seem to have a certain melody that appears in a lot of their songs (can't think of any examples right now). i never noticed that it's in Spyro too, that's cool.
and i would never have noticed. nice find

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
Yep. I can't believe it took me so long to notice it. I've always loved the music and listen to it by itself often, but I first noticed it in the Beast Maker's theme not long ago.
Next time I get the chance to play StD again, I'm going to turn off the sound effects and listen carefully for any more examples.

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
Sorry for the double post, but I found another one! This one's quite obvious. I'm not sure why I didn't discover it sooner. Lol.
Here it is in Dark Passage at 0:41

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
You know, if I had the time, I'd find them all. I'm excellent with music, especially Spyro. The Spyro series has my favorite videogame soundtrack of all time. For now, I'll tell you that even Spyro 2 has a few parts of this in the music.
The easiest one to spot is in the "Trolley Trouble" at 1:01.
There's probably a few more in the later games too.

Re: Recapitulation in the Music
Never knew it carried on to later game too; that's awesome. If your find the time it'd be cool to find them all. Or if I ever find a break in my hectic schedule, I'll boot up some Spyro 2 with the sound effects off like Spyrogirl101 suggested.

It doesn't just go Spyro 2, Even the next generation, Enter the Dragonfly has this exact same Recapitulation in a track or two.
It exists in the Credits music at 0:38

Oh yeah, I was going to point that one out, but I forgot.
Also, Paranoia, you can find the ost of the first four games on the internet, with enough searching. Not sure where, but I could look them up and link you to them if you'd like.

well, yeah, they are, but downloading over 100 songs from youtube would be really tedious.

Oh, I'm aware of that. Thanks though. It's just more fun to play through the games again. Don't think I've played 2 or 3 in about a year.
