2012 video with Ted Price on developing Disruptor and Spyro

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/ … ragon.aspx
An interesting video I hadn't seen before...

At about 07:00, he talks about how they did really weird and whacky stuff in Spyro, and mentions an enemy having bats flying out of it's stomach. I can't remember anything like that ever appearing. Am I just forgetting something, was it an enemy they left out, or was it from Ratched & Clank?(I haven't played those yet)

Wow, what a cool video. It's funny that people complained about Spyro's personality. Honestly, I think them changing it slightly worked really well though. It made it seem like he grew from a slightly naive, cocky kid into a more level-headed, smarter guy who has a better handle on things. Instead of it changing drastically, it's more like it just evolved. I don't remember bats flying out of an enemy's stomach either... In fact, the only levels I remember having bats were Ice Cavern (they were fodder) and Skelos Badlands (well, sort of; the catbat things).

Nice video big_smile I don't remember the bat thing eiter. Also, for some reason, I find the videos in disruptor more... natural for me. I know it seem weird.

Nice, I hadn't seen that video either.

All nostalgia aside, I kind of agree about Spyro's personality in the first game. His voice is a bit silly, and he just comes off as being unnaturally cocky. Still doesn't bother me at all, and I still love the first game more than the rest. And I'm guessing the enemy with bats that Ted was talking about was probably a concept at some point, and didn't made it into the actual game.

Also, you should definitely play Ratchet and Clank when you get the chance! It's definitely one of my favorite game series. (if not my favorite)

I can't remember seeing those crystal bears in the final PAL version either. As Paranoia said, it was probably removed at some stage during development.

The crystal bears were actually in Spyro 3 in Crystal Islands (at least in the NTSC version), so he was already getting a bit mixed up. Can't blame the guy though, it's been about 15 years since the games were released.

Fair enough, guess I remembered it incorrectly then. Maybe it's time to play through Spyro 3 again...

I definitely will! Maybe I can get the hd collection for my brother's PS3... O.o

I think Spyro's attitude in the first game gave him much more personality, which I really liked. But it would not have fitted as well in the sequels, so I'm glad they changed it.
