Skylanders rental
Does anyone know of any services for renting Skylanders figures? Would such a thing be legal/possible/desired?

Sorry Stormy. As far as I know for now. Nothing's been said about the figures being able to be rented. Hopefully down the road they can be.

Yeah, looks like there aren't any. I've been trying to do some research on this (may or may not have a business idea I'm interested in starting). It looks like there would be no competitors, at least, but I'd like to know whether or not that's because of legal issues or something else.

I do not think they would allow it as the programming that goes into the actual characters figures have unique ID's which cannot be simply changed so would cause havoc ingame.

I know you can buy used figures, though. It took them a while, but my local Gamestop finally started selling them. I imagine that if they link to your game or console, there's some kind of in-game reset function that would unlink them, but I've never played it, so....
