Is This Game Good?
Is this game any good?
I haven't played this game myself however, I was thinking about ordering it off Amazon. And can someone tell my why it has two names: Ripto's Rage and Gateway To Glimmer?
I wanted an honest opinion on this game, because some people say it's great and other's say differently...

Re: Is This Game Good?
Well, I can't go too deep into opinions right now. It's been so long since I've played such an epic game. For now, I'm just going to say my opinion on the differencing names: USA, Spyro's "native dev" country, decided that the focus was defeating Ripto, hence "Ripto's Rage." The Europeans either thought that name was too dark or thought the public would be confused as to who "Ripto" is, hence the "Gateway to Glimmer" title.

Re: Is This Game Good?
I think the game is great, a vast improvement upon the first. I heard that the title is just a difference in what they thought would sell better versus the NTSC version, but maybe what Scaler said is correct.

Yeah, Western releases always like the be more "edgy" I feel like. Just look at the Japanese Kirby vs. American covers. Kirby's always angry in the American ones, lol.
But seriously, all 3 PS1 titles are great. Each game adds something new that makes the game fun. The first game is still my favorite because of the music, atmosphere, and level design, but they're all great.

if you've played and liked either the first or third games, you'll like this one, too.

If you liked Year of the dragon, you'll like this one too What I like more on this game is that it has funny intros and outros for each level

Re: Is This Game Good?
It sounds like a really cool game! I have to wait till I can order it off Amazon though, as I have just ordered Year of The Dragon (I've played it and owned it before I didn't have a case for it though and lost it, so had to buy it again) so I'll order Ripto's Rage when I get more pocket money.

Re: Is This Game Good?
you live in England, right? you should probably specifically buy "Gateway to Glimmer" since that's the version that would work on a European console.
they're basically the same game, from what i understand, but somehow the hardware itself works differently in different regions. (i don't know much about technology, so i can't explain why )

Re: Is This Game Good?
Europe and Australia tend to use PAL format for display on televisions, while the rest of the world tends to use NTSC. There are minor differences in how they display stuff, but it's not too noticeable. So, if your area uses PAL, which England uses, you probably have a PAL console, therefore you can only play PAL games on it. There are also things like NTSC-J, what Japan uses, and such. If you want to get the game on a PAL console, you'd have to get Gateway to Glimmer, as that's the PAL name for the game.

Okay, I guess I'll buy Gateway To Glimmer! I live in the United Kingdom, England. When I enter the British version of Amazon it says Gateway To Glimmer and not Ripto's Rage.

Re: Is This Game Good?
Gateway To Glimmer is my favorite Spyro game and easily one of my all time favorite games. It's really worth buying espesially for 5€ from PSN Store or 10€ for the Spyro Trilogy.
