Twilight Harbour Challenge.

Yesterday, I managed to get on top of the first building that you go through in Twilight Harbour.

Here it is:

The challenge is to get to here, and post your own version of this photograph.

Re: Twilight Harbour Challenge.

I've never been on the first building in Twilight Harbor, and I'm not exactly sure how it's possible without the moon jump hack. Maybe a really clever abuse of the supercharge?

This is somewhat related. http://imgur.com/a/Xsqzj There are other misc pictures in that album, but most of it is places I've gotten to in the game. I won't claim that all of them are hard to do, but the Artisans wall glide in particular takes a bit of skill to pull off.

I would definitely be interested in more of these challenges, so long as we can make sure to prove that it was done in game without any external hacks (such as using emulator/gameshark for things like the moon jump).

OK, here's how to do it:

Open the drawbridge, then go to the top of the ramp and start a supercharge. Hug the side of the drawbridge and jump off it. Hitting the side of the drawbridge as you jump should give you a boost to your jump which should be enough to get onto the building with two floors. Go to the other end of the building and make an easy glide over the water and onto the next building. Now here's the difficult part: Stand on the stump of the left chimney of the building you're on, charge to the very edge of the stump, stop, then jump immediately and glide at the VERY top of your jump, and charge when you're just in front of the building directly across, and with practice and luck, you should make it.

Also, the only cheat device I've ever had is an Action Replay DS that I haven't used for about 4-5 years and I've all but abandoned it because 1. I never thought I would be able to complete the only 2 games I used it on, Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros., even though I can now, and 2. Not only did it mess up the file that I used it on in Super Mario 64 DS, rendering 1 Power Star uncollectable, and 5 other Power Stars impossible to get without further hacks, but it also sometimes made both of the games crash.

Re: Twilight Harbour Challenge.

I'm about to make a video of how I got up there, very cool stuff Morgan. Thanks for guiding me up there. I was wondering if I could make it to the last building because PAL actually has higher jump height. But I assume you don't know what charge-gliding is, so that's what got me over there.

I did say to charge at the end of your glide to clear the gap, is that what charge-gliding is?

Also, could you post a video showing how you made it onto the other hill in Artisans? Because I wouldn't want to have to do the first two wall glides all over again because I didn't know where to aim at the other hill. At the moment, the first wall glide is fine for me, but I keep going too low on the second wall glide and getting pushed off.

How about that huge seam between the building and the hill as well?

Just a a few more things: 2 parts of the building will cause occlusion when stood on, and part of the hill is non-solid, allowing you to die by falling, but this next thing is really interesting: By gliding off the building and away from the level, instead of hitting the water, you'll die instantly by going too low. This means that the water is actually invisible, but clever white textures at the bottom of the paths, buildings, and hills gives the illusion of light reflecting off water, which tells your brain that the water is visible.

Charge-gliding is jumping, then charging into a glide. You hit square very quickly before hitting X for the second time. You can hardly notice I'm doing it in the video I posted. It's hard to get down at first, but eventually it becomes second nature.

As far as the Artisans wall glide: Spyro has a rolling animation when he hits certain hills, and you can keep him rolling upward by holding X. You'd use that technique to get to the very top of the hill, then glide over the gap to the other hill. If I have spare time, I'll make an updated video of it for you.

About the huge seam, I did notice that the textures would deload at certain angles around it, which is really cool. I never tried gliding around the hill to the left (when facing the sunset), but I figure that's what you're referring to.

But yeah, if you're interested in this stuff, I'll say it again, speedrunning seems like it would be enjoyable for you. You might be able to find things in the game that we haven't yet.

The only speedruns that I would be interested in doing would be Spyro 1, 2, and 3 chitched (Chitching is cheating with glitches.) speedruns that don't skip chunks of the games.

Ratchet5 from YouTube (He's also on this forum, his name here is just Ratchet.) holds tournaments called I'm A Speedrunner. When there's another Spyro I'm A Speedrunner tournament, (There's already been 3 Spyro tournaments, out of 9 so far, not including spin-off tournaments.) I'll most likely sign up for it.

For some reason, I was expecting Spyro to fall through the seam, given how ridiculously wide it is.

I never said anything about gliding around the hill, and did you try and glide beyond the invisible water?

I know about the rolling animation and how it's possible to go up with it, but I never knew that you could hold X to make it easier. What I want to see is how to get to the hill directly across from the hill that you call Mt. Caitelady, because I can see from the pictures that you managed to get there when you weren't recording your gameplay.

Also, check out my Robotica Farms challenge.

By the way, congratulations on succeeding at this challenge.

Re: Twilight Harbour Challenge.

"Chitching" isn't a thing. The difference between "cheating" and "glitching" are very defined.

Cheating would be using hacks from something like a GameShark, or cheat codes.

Glitching is something anyone could do if they had the game and enough skill.

"Chitching" is a term invented by a Spyro community on YouTube.

cheating is also breaking rules. i assume there are rules for speedruns, there were for all the ones i've heard about in the past, thus the term would make sense.
