WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Hello, I was wondering if anyone wanted to do some collaboration on covering the soundtrack. I'm assuming we can record and send it to someone else who will put it together. I play bass (if you couldn't guess by the name), drums, and a little bit of guitar! If anyone wants to help just let me know! I think this would be really fun

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
I've done covers of the TLOS themes before, but not the classic soundtrack, and I haven't played and recorded them before. What I can do is create a written score of it for someone/ a group to play. I can play piano, but I don't think anyone here can play anything else. Sounds like a fun idea, though

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
The only instruments Stewart Copeland uses are bass, guitar, piano, drums, and some sort of lute-type-thing if I'm not mistaken. I dunno, it'd just be fun do screw around with it over Skype or on something like garage band. A good friend of mine has a lot of recording equipment. Just hit me up with a PM if you want to.

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Would this "lute-type-thing" be the Bouzouki?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouzouki
I'm pretty sure it is! I've been looking for what instruments Copeland used and this has ticked one off the list. Thanks

I wouldn't mind having a go. I'm getting bored with my cover band I'm in. I play Drums. Not sure on how you want to do this though. If you interested give me a message or email me on [email protected].
Cheers Chris

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Whilst we're on the subject, does anyone know what instrument(s) have the melody in the Artisans world soundtrack? The first one appears here and the second instrument appears here. These instruments also appear throughout the original soundtrack. I can't identify either of the two instruments but I'm sure they are percussion of some sort.
The second one might be a glockenspiel but it sounds different to what is sounds like IRL (maybe it sounds different because it's a MIDI version of it?). I have no idea what the first one is though so any help would be appreciated

The first one sounds like an xylophone to me on midi.

But, in regards to doing this... We'll probably have to do the recording on our own and then put it together on a computer programs of some sorts. We'll figure it out though. I just thought this would be a fun idea to get to know other people in the fandom

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Oooh, Oooh! I have another question for people who know about drums and stuff (because I don't).
I was wondering which drum is used to make the opening roll in some Spyro tracks (like in the Artisan Homeword again). I was pretty sure it's just a good ol' Timpani, but then again it might be one of the tom drums on the standard drum kit. Can't decide Can somebody resolve me of mine ambiguities?

I think it is both. The timpani is used throughout the entire song, and has a very deep resonating sound, so I have safe bets that was in the intro. The toms could be what gave it the "rolling" sound, so I'm betting that there isn't just a timpani in the beginning. I'm just in my 2nd year of percussion, so don't take my stance as empirical. Anyone else's thoughts?

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Sounds like a pretty fun idea, I could give it a try on the keyboard front I guess ^^
As for the sounds, the first one is pretty hard to identify. It most likely is a blend of more than one instrument, if not further synthetically augmented. My guess would be a vibraphone and a glockenspiel. The second one I agree is most likely a standalone glockenspiel while the drum roll sounds like a standard orchestral bass drum to me.

My absolute favourite level as well as the most frustrating. The way the paths loop and the supercharge ramps connect just makes for a really well designed stage.

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COVER THE SOUNDTRACK?! :D
Ooh, ooh, ooh! I think I found out what idiophone instrument Copeland used in the Artisans Homeworld theme that I was talking about earlier!
Crotales!
Example: https://youtu.be/LGrAwQnZ6Bs?t=45
I didn't know that they can be bowed too. Sounds cool though.
A bit off topic, but interesting and slightly relevant nonetheless if anyone (still) wants to cover the man theme or make a Spyro 1 inspired track.

Hi guy's and girls. Found this video which might help from Stewart Copeland. You do see one of the funny instruments which has puzzled a few people. It is only a short piece in the video you see it in. Its just when he mentions The Police you see the instrument. https://www.facebook.com/VPACatCSUN/vid … 5/?fref=nf

Nice find!
Yup, those are Crotales that he's using at 1:34 (plus a TamTam at 1:46). It's extremely likely that those percussion instruments were used for the Spyro soundtrack if Copeland uses them here.
