Re: Welcome to the Suggestion and Help Forum!

I would really like to see a definitive forum section dedicated to the music of Spyro! I know there are threads but I'd love to see it as a category because it's usually my favourite thing to talk/learn about tongue

Re: Welcome to the Suggestion and Help Forum!

I like that idea; I'd do it right now if we had more activity!

What do you all think? If I added a section specifically for music, would people start new threads and participate in them? Or would it just spread out the Spyro sections' activity even thinner? Would love to hear some opinions on this.

Re: Welcome to the Suggestion and Help Forum!

Well, that definitely sounds like a reasonable idea.

Whilst there is potentially the risk of, as Stormy said, spreading out activity "even thinner", this would probably not matter much due to the fact that such a thread would likely create new discussions and thus increase overall activity. Nothing would be 'taken away' as such from other threads, although a change in ratio between posts in a new music thread vs posts in other threads will be observed (thus causing a 'thinning out'). Therefore, a new thread like this will basically broaden SpyroForum's range of topics which opens up the possibility for an increase in Forum activity in itself.

However, such a new thread would also cause organisation issues regarding the music-related discussions that already exist in current threads. For example, this thread under the Spyro The Dragon thread may need to be relocated to the new thread if it were to be created. This may cause confusion as such a thread is, at the moment, active (or was a few days ago tongue) and Users still willing to post in such a thread may need to be warned of such a move. Perhaps a more difficult task would be the transfer of older non-active topics located in various threads to the new thread if such an action were to be undertaken. In addition, if for whatever reason the new music thread would be removed then the old posts would need to be transferred back to their original threads which may take some logistics and planning beforehand.

Another point to consider would be the quantity of content in a new music thread. Whilst there could be a rise in content initially (due to the "newness" of it all) it could probably become stagnated pretty soon. Alternatively, it could be potentially bolstered by the transfer of old non-active threads (which, as a result, may become active again due to being 'bumped' by the transfer) and the appearance of a new thread could encourage people to discuss this new topic more and more. I know that I would certainly like to contribute big_smile Coincidentally, I've been thinking of making Spyro Piano tutorials with me IRL playing the piano and showing you what keys to play and such tongue as well as more covers.

Come to think of it, there have actually been quite a few Spyro music related threads occurring recently anyway (albeit some of them mine) so content may not be an issue. For example...

https://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14726
https://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14862
https://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=13391
https://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14916

and, our favourite...

https://www.spyroforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14536

Whilst I've made a lot of negative points, personally I like the sound of this idea. I'm just outlining the problems that this would create and that may need to be considered smile

Edit - 01/12/2015 at 21:39: There might also need to be consideration for Skylanders music, so maybe call it "Spyro and Skylanders Music", or just use "music" in an umbrella term somehow

Re: Welcome to the Suggestion and Help Forum!

Thanks, Waffled, I think that's a pretty good analysis of the situation. smile My main concern with spreading the activity out too much is that it could make the forum look  less active if there are too many forums without new posts. Like what happened with Forum Games - it was split off from spam so people couldn't just post nonsense in actual games, but it barely gets used, and now it's just adding to the overall look of deadness. hmm

There used to be a Spyro Help section for asking questions, and after the move, I sorted through all the threads and put them in the right forums. Same thing when Serious Discussion and Forum Games were made.  It took a long time, but it was doable. Those threads were all inactive, though, so there wasn't any potential confusion to worry about.

I've been considering consolidating some of the individual game sections into series sections, so there'd  be Original Trilogy, Handhelds, ETD & AHT (whatever you'd call that), LoS, and Skylanders. Spyro Chat could probably even go away,  and its threads could be placed into the appropriate new sections. And the various fandom sections could all be put into one, too.

I'm not sure where this music section would fit into this, or if I'll even do any merging. It's something to think about, at least. I'm probably just fighting a losing battle trying to make this place more active, heh.

Re: Welcome to the Suggestion and Help Forum!

Eh, you can always invite a bunch of people back for the 10th anniversary of this site next year to temporarily increase activity tongue

...but realistically that's just not sustainable. sad

I personally wouldn't consolidate all the different categories of games in Classic, TLoS etc because it would cause problems with people trying to find information on specific games by making specific things harder to find (not that anyone would be looking for such things nowadays tongue).

I think this would be a good idea.

This idea sounds good.
