So... what genre of music is the Spyro trilogy again?
I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything, does anyone here know?

Re: So... what genre of music is the Spyro trilogy again?
depends on the level, i'd say. the songs are pretty experimental overall. a lot of the songs from the first 2 seem to be influenced a lot by folk rock, while the third game seems to be more electronic influenced. i don't know much about electronic subgenres though, so i'll just say "electronic".
but i mean like,
the Spyro 2 homeworlds are ambient
Icy Speedway is drum n bass
Gulp's Overlook is filmscore

Generally speaking, and from what I can interpret, Spyro 1 mainly goes for a rock idiom with some influence of jazz here and there. Copeland's father was a jazz musician and he had played in several rock groups (i.e. The Police) so he would have been familiar with both these styles and is seemingly influenced by them when composing. I'll leave it at cuz this'll turn into a rant if I delve more into it
Also, as 36 mentions, the sequels move away from this idea and become increasingly more ambient and cinematic.

The first game was definitely a lot more rock-based, but the second and especially the third moved a bit more towards electronic music in some respects. I don't think you can really put it into any genre apart from just calling it "Video game music," because different songs could be classified as different genres. This is a problem with most video game soundtracks, actually. You can't really define most of them under a genre, unless the entire soundtrack is consistent genre-wise.
If you asked me to put this one into a genre, I'd definitely call it rock, but this doesn't apply to all of the songs in the game.
If you asked me to put this one into a genre, it'd be a bit harder, because the beat sounds very reminiscent of electronic music, but about 45 seconds in, it picks up with the guitar and starts to sound more like rock.
The soundtrack goes all over the place. This track sounds like ambient electronic music.
It's too confusing to try to put the Spyro soundtrack into a genre. In my music collection, I have them all marked as "VGM."
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: So... what genre of music is the Spyro trilogy again?
id say they expanded pretty much to using everything lol most simplest answer you can have, games such as dynasty warriors can be pegged pretty easily, they focus on stuff such as drums/guitar, easy, but ps1 spyro is very hard to nail as just 1 type
