Gem system.

I don't know why it was ever removed, but the gem system in here was fantastic back in the day. I used to post a lot back then and I remember getting paid gems for screen grabbing from the Spyro Games for someone who wanted screenshots. Good times.... Unique feature for a suitable forum to incorporate it too. Why was it removed?

The only reason that I can find is that they sort of died off, so they were left behind when this forum migrated to FluxBB 4 years ago.

No one really used it anymore, so I didn't think we needed to migrate it over. It did used to be kind of fun when people had their own shops and stuff.

i thought it was because the new [server?] didn't support the gem system, not that we just decided not to implement it

personally i wouldn't mind if it was brought back too

If the forum allows you to add custom PHP that's great. But yeah I agree not all that worthwhile if no one uses it. Maybe there's a way to make it more active, and even use it to boost activity on the forum? What did people sell in their shops?

It used to be like an avatar, banner, and art commission thing if I remember correctly. Was kind of cool when the forum was active, but declined along with everything else. tongue

I think you also lost gems when you posted in SPAM too which was funny

i don't remember that (though it could have been the case anyway), but i DO remember your post count didn't increase in SPAM. and then one day that just randomly stopped, and now posts DO count big_smile

I mean, I could have done it if people had actually wanted it. It just would have been a lot of hassle. While there are currency mods for FluxBB that I could have modified, the database migration script didn't automatically handle that kind of extra stuff like it did posts, usernames, and avatars, so I would have had to write a script to bring that data all over and fit it in to the new mod myself.

In the end, we took a vote before the migration happened, and gems were not one of the features people voted to keep. Same with guestbooks (which I actually do kind of miss).

Also I'm pretty sure it was -10 gems per spam post, although there was a bug where the gem value didn't actually show up like it normally would have after you posted.

Gems are back! Right now it's a very simple system that gives or takes gems based on which forum you're posting in. I might make it so that if you're in the negatives, you can't post in SPAM anymore >:D (Hint: the forum for the remaster currently gives 20 gems per topic and 10 per post.) There's a donating system as well at /donate.php, but it needs some work as well.

Where are they Stormy? I can't see my gems. Is it a bug that I cannot see a floating gem or is it meant to be that way ?

Gem count displays in your profile and on each of your posts. I have not added the gem icon yet.
