Ideas for a challenge mode.
I've been thinking about this, what if TFB added a challenge mode, mainly because I want some more challenge when I actually get to play the Reignited trilogy (sometime in 2266), where the following things are changed/added.
- You only have one hit point i.e. no Sparx, however, you are able to collect gems as if you had him.
- All enemies/bosses have double hit points. I.E if there is a boss with 5 HP, in Challenge Mode it will have 10 HP.
- In the pause menu 'Exit Level' is disabled and replaced by 'Quit Game'. (This is to prevent players from exiting the level to avoid losing a life to an endless pit.)
- There are more enemies then usual.
- Moneybags will ask for more gems then usual.
- The Balloonists' requirements for getting to the next homeworld will be stricter.
- Flights/Speedways will give less time to complete them. (Unless the level only gives you enough time to beat it. In this case, the time limit will be the same.)
- All challenges in Spyro 2/3 are increased in difficulty.

Re: Ideas for a challenge mode.
That'd be neat, but I highly doubt something like that would be implemented.
Some alterations are to be expected, although I think a lot of us are sorta riding the hype train off the cliff with expectations of all new content. Trust me, I'm guilty of this myself. I don't mean to sound like a buzzkill. I just don't want people to get so hyped for all sorts of potential new additions to this and that when in reality, this is essentially a remaster of the original games. Again, some slight alterations are to be expected, but at some point this stops being a remaster of the originals and more like a whole new game entirely.
I'd rather go into this expecting essentially the same exact games just with better graphics and controls and be pleasantly surprised by any new features that are added, then to go in expecting all sorts of new features only to be let down and realize that this is basically just an HD version of the original games.

Just an idea I had. If the remake doesn't have it, someone could mod in a challenge mode in the PS1 versions.

If only Sony were better about backwards compatibility. I wish I didn't have to hook up my ancient artifact of a PS1 that's as loud as a police siren whenever I start the darned thing up, just so I can play the originals on it.

you can also play PS1 games on PS2s.
also, i'm pretty sure (CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, MODS) emulators are legal as long as you use physical PS1 discs, and not ROMs, so you can also play them on PC too.

I'm technologically challenged, so I have no idea about any of that.
Honestly, I'm still stuck in the era where buying a physical copy of the game was the full game. Back before all this DLC and micro-transaction stuff became a thing.
I explained this somewhere else here, but I kinda fell out of gaming in general around the PS3 era. Feels nice but slightly intimidating to finally return to it.

I thought you could use image of your original disk too, but I'm not a lawyer.

Not totally sure, but I'm pretty sure it is actually still technically illegal since you need an image of the console BIOS. Would anyone care though for a 20 year old system? Most likely not.

Re: Ideas for a challenge mode.
There's a breed of gamer out there that wishes every game was like dark souls. High difficulty, unforgiving, challenging to a pulp. They like the adrenaline and satisfaction of beating something that takes a lot of effort. I appreciate that. However, Spyro should not be that kind of game, in my opinion. Spyro to me is more of a casual platformer where the challenges lay in repetition and consistency, instead of pure challenge. In the first Spyro game, a lot of people have memories of the Tree Tops and how challengingly impossible the supercharge locations felt. That's basically as hard as it should get. Any harder, and it becomes not fun for people just wanting to play casual Spyro. Spyro games are actually pretty easy, so making them hard would probably go against what we loved about the games. I don't mind a few challenges here and there, but for the most part, super hard things just wouldn't interest me.

Like the idea sounds cool.

Challenge Mode isn't required, it's only for people like me who want a little more challenge like me. I see your point though.

For people who are competitions, challenge mode becomes a requirement. Imagine if I told you there is a challenge mode for Year of the Dragon you just didn't know about it (Not just the hidden difficulty slider, i know there is one). You would feel pretty incomplete wouldn't you? Adding things to the completionist list is fine when its doable, but if it only makes it challenging for the purpose of making it for a select type of person, its going to aggravate people who just want to 100% it.
