Halo Ranks 74 Levels of the Original Trilogy
Spyro the Dragon has been one of my favorite game franchises for a very long time. Spyro Year of the Dragon was the first ever game I played, and that is when my mother sat me down and showed me the game. I remember always liking to fight Spike due to his difficulty. I also remember not wanting to collect the gems until I was more older. I played Ripto's Rage not long after playing Year of the Dragon for a couple of months. Gulp was my favorite fight in that game. But weirdly, I never played the first game as a kid. I played Spyro 1 when I was much, much older. I played these games to full completion, including the bonus percentage. The best thing about Spyro are.. the levels.
What I personally love about the levels is the amount of creativity put into each of them. Something as dull as Mystic Marsh can have you stressed out trying to chase down those kangaroos. The design, music, missions, everything about Spyro is absolutely amazing, which is why after reading KYHO'S Ranking, I decided to make my own.
Check out KYHO'S Ranking, Its absolutely amazing.
There are some basic rules about this ranking:
1. Only normal levels and homeworlds allowed.
2. This is MY opinion, so please don't get butthurt if I put a fan favorite like Dark Passage near the bottom.
3. Boss levels are allowed, but to an extent. Only the first game boss levels are allowed.
(Broken Rule, I figured out how to while doing #74)4. Bare with me, I don't know much about this kind of code, so I unfortunately can't put images in.

Interesting. I'd like to hop aboard that train at some point.
You only listed 73 levels. Don't forget Jacques!

MrX-Link: You only listed 73 levels. Don't forget Jacques!
Haha! Thanks! I fixed it!
Alright, the number 74 level goes to:
74. Misty Bog
{Spyro 1 Ranking: [29/29]}
{Beast Makers Ranking: [5/5]}
Ah, Misty Bog is #74, but why you ask? Oh there is so many reasons to why I hate Misty Bog.
Well lets start off with the horrible color palette/looks. Misty Bog looks absolutely disgusting, horrible, and just makes you not want to play the level. I get that it is a bog, but bogs are USUALLY green, not an ugly gray abomination. It just makes the level so much less enjoyable, if you get up high on the purple ruins, you are not thinking "Woah.. This is an amazing view!", rather, it is more like "What was the point of even climbing up this?". This map is just seriously, seriously, ugly. The enemies, personally, are more colorful than the bog itself. Heck, even the chicken cage is more colorful than the bog. Even the wood that is used just looks cherry-colored and drastically different from the level itself. Also here is a heads up, where the hell even is the mist? I saw no mist when I played this level. I really hope Reignited (Haven't played it yet) touches up on the colors, because right now it just looks terrible.
Secondly, What I hate with a burning passion is the layout. It is just mostly flat land apart from going up logs and I believe you fell once. It's just very bare and there's not much to climb on other than the ruins, which aren't exactly fun to climb on. There's two areas I hate the most, one would be that hidden area in one of the starting platforms. It took me so long to find it, and I didn't exactly like the level, so that didn't help. It was just a useless section the developers put in to keep you playing the level. The other part is the biggest hate for EVERYONE on the level. That *bleep* area overrun with the frogs. It is such a cramped area and there is about a 99% chance that you are bound to get hit. A lot of lives were lost in this area.
Thirdly, those enemies are actually the worst. Starting with the bunny-looking tree enemies. They aren't THAT annoying, however, in tight areas, they aren't exactly the best enemy for that. The way they just charge at you, it is slow but if your camera is SOMEHOW weird, you might get hurt. It is also kind of terrifying how they shake and just charge at you. Now that armored gnorcs. They are just basic, nothing really interesting. Its annoying how you charge them to get them into the bog water, but you fall with it, all for a chicken. I would've liked to see some sort of mist gnorc or bog gnorc instead of the usual armored one. They add nothing special to the level. They also just make the terrible small room with frogs and stuff a lot harder, as in you can't flame them like the frogs, and when you charge, a frog ends up hitting you. Then there is the boar. Nothing interesting, just annoying because they are fast and you cannot flame them. They make platforming surely a lot harder, as they hit you off, though it is kind of cool how they can kill the frogs and armored gnorcs though. Now finally, the one enemy that makes this level horrible. THE FROGS. They are just the worst enemy in all of Spyro to me. They are very annoying, and here is why. Their tongues outreach Spyro's fire breath, and you are bound to get hit by a frog. In that tight room, there is no possible way to NOT get hit by a frog in my opinion. The frogs also have the SECOND worst model in Misty Bog, the first being the armored gnorc. They are just ugly to look at.
As it is Spyro 1, I don't have too much to say about the level. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

See you next time!
Adios!

Re: Halo Ranks 74 Levels of the Original Trilogy
i dunno if i'd go so far as to call Misty Bog "ugly", but it sure is muted, and... uninteresting. there's nothing captivating about it like there is for a lot of other Spyro levels.
those frogs ARE the absolute worst, though. i think i like "trouble with the trolley eh?" more than i like those frogs.
overall this should be interesting. i really liked KYHO's thread, it's cool to have someone else doing this as well!

Yeah, maybe "ugly" was slightly a stretch, it sure is probably the worst looks out of all of the original trilogy.
I am back, and here is the #73 and #72 levels.
73. Haunted Tomb
{Spyro 3 Ranking: [24/24]}
{Midnight Mountain Ranking: [6/6]
Ah yes, Haunted Tomb. Another.. possibly odd choice. Well there are quite a few things wrong with this level.
I might as start with positivity, I do like the design as it does have a great take on the egyptian theme. It's colors are a bit dull, but that is easily overlooked when you are playing the level, another thing I like about Haunted Tomb is the fact it is rather.. unforgettable. But I believe it is unforgettable in not a very good way, in fact, it is remembered as having so much horrible content inside the level.
I guess I covered the theme, so how about the layout? Now, the layout is kind of in the same boat as Misty Bog, flat with only a few ups and downs. I also was not a huge fan of some of the cheap spots where you could get hit. It is rather boring, especially that rockfall part. Whenever I play Spyro 3, I never ever get hit by those falling rocks, not only are they easy to dodge, but it appears Spyro needs to be really close to get hit by the rocks. It was just a useless design to give a slight scare, but nothing else and added about nothing to the level. There isn't really anything else about the level that screams "This is Haunted Tomb, a UNIQUE level." Instead, its rather just boring compared to moving platforms and different levels like Charmed Ridge or going up a peak that is Icy Peak. Though, I will admit, I do like the mechanic of stepping on the blue plate and opening doors, that makes the level slightly better.
Oh boy, before we get onto the WORST part of the level, lets talk about the enemies. Every. Single. Enemy. Is. Trash. The variety of them is okay, but all of them are just basic and annoying. The jackals for starters, absolutely NOTHING to offer, I mean there isn't many too unique enemies in most of the Spyro levels, but *bleep* they are pretty much only one color. All you do is charge them, and I hate the enemies who can't be flamed/charged. Next, the rhynocs. It is SO annoying that they respawn, and the only way to get rid of them is to destroy the sarcophagus, which gets really annoying. Thirdly, the Earthshapers, they are probably my favorite enemies in the level. I like their design, though I prefer the Earthshapers from Fracture Hills and Magma Cone. I like that they throw bombs that will blow up after a certain time, fun fact actually, When I was younger, I thought they were diapers. It is a fun challenge to try to pick up the bombs and throw them at the Earthshapers. Alright, thats it for the enemies, now what was the worst part of the level you ask? The missions.
The best of all the missions for me in Haunted Tomb, was the snake slide. It wasn't anything special, however I did prefer this said slide more than Crystal Islands' slide. I liked the teal colors of the snake. It was slightly annoying to try to get all the gems, and the slide wasn't exactly all that long, but it was an enjoyable 10 seconds. I had trouble deciding which mission I liked over the other, and I went with the tank battle. Yes, yes, I know. The infamous tank battle. It was horrible, it really was. It felt like the rhynocs could shoot through the cauldrons as Spyro's tank's hitbox was slightly big, and it also was annoying that yes, the rhynocs had probably the worst AI, but when you think about it, the mission itself didn't take all THAT long. I kind of was interested at the amount of difficulty, but I did hate the tank wars. Now the final and worst mission in Haunted Tomb, the part that makes me want to tear out my own insides, King Rover's 5 trials. Man.. I REALLY hated this mission, in fact, I still do! First of all, you may as Agent 9, and in a rather 2D form, This is the SECOND worst mission Agent 9 is in, He is my least favorite character to play out of all of the bonus characters. The lasers do bounce off the walls, but that HARDLY works in your favor. I hate the 3rd-5th trials, they have too many enemies and it gets stressful because Agent 9 is SO *bleep* slow. Also this mission was harder for me than the boxing the yeti mission in Frozen Altars. I just had SO much trouble on this one mission.
So thats a wrap for #73! Also the scarab beetles are cute for fodder lol.
72. Agent 9's Lab
{Spyro 3 Ranking: [23/24]}
{Midnight Mountain Ranking: [5/6]}
Another Spyro 3 level! Better yet, Another Midnight Mountain level! Yeah.. Not a huge fan of that homeworld. (Also notice that Agent 9's Lab is also 72 on KYHO's list?)
Agent 9's Lab is slightly unique, it doesn't scream agony, frustration, or plain out stupid. It spells out b o r e d o m. I will cut it very little to no slack, as it is a playable character level, and those are usually short and not much fun, but I had fun with Bentley's Outpost and Sheila's Alp. Let us start out with the looks of the level. I will admit, the looks aren't too bad, I like the tropical feeling to it. I also do like the lab, but to be frank I wasn't a huge fan on the lack of detail. It wasn't that exciting.
I've just realized, there isn't much to say on this level. But lets go with the usual order and talk about the layout. It is honestly just flat land except for the lab part. Literally, its even MORE flat than Misty Bog!! Flat land just enrages me. It makes the level so so so so so.... much more boring. Honestly it feels like the layout is in a straight line, honest. I hate with a burning passion, again, not much to say though.
The enemies. There is like 3. The laser rhynocs were very annoying to kill. As Agent 9 has the worst controls in all of the playable characters, They weren't very easy, especially that area where you have to hit the red wooden plate. Just pure annoyance. Now the armored rhynocs. They were not even memorable for me other than the ones in Cloud Spires and Molten Crater. I only thought it was the laser rhynocs and the birds. It was also rather annoying that the armored rhynocs wield laser guns, which makes everything harder. Then there is the birds. My favorite enemy of the game. I thought they were interesting and kind of cute, how they bobbed out of their nests and charged at Agent 9 when he wasn't expecting it. It felt satisfying getting the egg after the bird mission. Also, not an enemy, but a fun challenge to kill, and those were the canoeing bears.. or at least I thought they were bears.
Finally, the missions. I established the bird and canoe missions. So I guess I'll just talk about the skill point. IT TAKES SO *bleep* LONG. Walking through the level carrying the bombs, blowing the 6 palm trees, and which even sucks more is that there is enough for only the 6 palm trees, so then you have to walk all the way back to blow the metal crate. ABSOLUTELY annoying!
And that is that for today, thanks for reading!

Re: Halo Ranks 74 Levels of the Original Trilogy
seems a lot of people don't like Agent 9's level. i'm honestly... pretty much just indifferent to it, but i can see why it ranks so low on a lot of people's lists.
Haunted Tomb is............. the design is really cool, but any level with that tank challenge is going to automatically suck more than it did before. uuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh that tank challenge.
