Hardest Spryo Game? [out of the original Insomniac triology]

Spyro 3, with those difficult skill points!

Anyone else found the Agent 9 Fireworks Factory mini-game quite hard? It's easier with the machine gun but one false move and BAM!
you are back to where you started with a normal weapon. sad

It can be only the 3rd spyro : spyro 3, year of the dragon, beacause of this tank challenge, yeti boxing challenge AND UFO sorceress battle... HORROR !

spyro the dragon is easiest, except haunted towers and tree tops, and tricky parts at alpine ridge.

Spyro 2: ripto rage (or gateway to glimmer) was a medium difficulty game. target challenge and the lava lizards eggs was tough.

Spyro 2 had the hardest boss i think. And some of the minigames were little bit too hard.

I don't want to sound like I'm backseat modding, but you should take care when replying to topics, this one hasn't been replied to for a year.

Back on topic, I still think Spyro 1 was the hardest. I never completed 1 or 2, but I found Spyro 1 a lot harder than number 2. Spyro 3 had some difficult bits, but was overall not as difficult as either of the other games.

I started playing Spyro 1 after a long time and I think it is more difficult than 2 and 3. In Spyro 1 the first two home worlds are quite easy, but it becomes much harder in the following home worlds. Some places are really hard to reach (for example remember Tree tops). When I was young I couldn't complete some levels in Spyro 1, so my older brother had to help me, but I was able to complete the other games myself.

For me, the hardest out of the insomniac trilogy (as much as i have managed to pulled off a 100% victory on all 3 games so many times) is Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage. especially when doing a game play with the regular flame. it only gets super easy when replaying the game with that infinite Superflame, otherwise it's a pretty challenging game compared to 1 and 3. the hard parts has to be helping hunter and the alchemist in fractured hills, destroying the lava lizards in Skelo's Badlands, also to mention saving the turtles from the pot of soup, and finally taking so many tries before successfully defeating Gulp and Ripto when using the regular flame. really difficult to pull off a 100% on Spyro 2 specifically with the regular flame ....but heck it's still fun to play.

i would say Spyro 1. it had this unrefined quality to its difficulty, like they didn't quite know where to draw the line yet; the frogs in Misty Bog were insane, and i still struggle with those today. the turtles in Dark Passage give me a lot of trouble. Terrace Village gives me a lot of trouble for some reason. both of the bigger enemies in Twilight Harbor give me some trouble, too, especially the humans(?).

Although I haven't played the games in a while, I think I'm still going to have to say 3, but 36 pointing out the Misty Bog frogs makes me question that a little. Those things are ridiculous.

When I played it, I was having a hard time with A Hero's Tail, I could never figure out where to go. And some levels took me forever to fully complete.

I think i'll have to change this actually. Spyro 2 does have the hardest boss in my opinion but Spyro 1 has some hard levels. Basically Tree Tops makes Spyro 1 the hardest. It's really hard to reach some places. Spyro 2 and 3 has those challenges of which some of them are hard but I would say Spyro 1 is the hardest.

other things to back up Spyro 1:

1) Tree Tops, as Nobololol said. especially the first time you ever play it! who remembers trying to navigate all that, not having a clue what's going on?

2) the hidden section in Haunted Towers.

The hardest levels i find in Spyro the dragon is the flight levels they are a nightmare.
I just can’t make it in time lol
I haven’t even got to try to make all skillpoints those seem pretty hard to complete.

Spyro 1. You'll die a lot. Meanwhile, in the other two, you may fail a lot, which is a more merciful thing than outright losing a life.

Same. They might all have that darn boxing mini-game, but it's a given I'll get 100%(+) on the games, and not any less.

Several years later I would like to reaffirm that I still think Spyro 1 is a lot more challenging than what meets the eye, and I still think that YotD is relatively easy to complete on PS1 once you get a hang of the minigame mechanics. I'd also say going into S1 blindly to 120% is a lot more challenging than doing the same for YotD, which holds your hand a lot more and feels a lot more like trial and error than actually figuring secrets out (though I always did enjoy finding the breakable walls)

If we're talking Reignited though... YotD definitely takes the cake for frustration's sake, and I'm particularly looking at the boxing match and the whack-a-mole (or any other Bentley) stages there. Also the slide mechanics are so weird in Reignited when it comes to Haunted Tomb's snake and Crystal Islands' slides. I don't think that makes Reignited YotD the harder game per se, but definitely a lot more annoying than the PS1 version. Reignited YotD also has a lot of moments in it that are suddenly way easier than its PS1 counterpart, like... most of the hidden eggs (have been made very obvious) and pretty much every single boss and mini-boss (e.g. Bluto, Sleepyhead).

It's generally a tough call to make, and I'd say S1 if we're basing this on blind starts, and otherwise YotD, but I'm sure about one thing: RR is the easiest for me, and always has been. Though it has more intricate stages, the minigames and the overall mechanical skill requirements are pretty low bar there, and Reignited further reinforced this.
