Re: Spyro Vs Critics
I think spyro gets a bad rep is cause hes a more kids game and its easy and mellow atmosphere. and the critics want more aggressive and challenging games. i think spyro games are good and unique because of how easy and mellow it is and it should never change cause some ppl love that its easy cause theyre either very young or new to video games.

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
IMO, this poll is almost completely one-sided; the critics obviously are hurting Spyro's reputation, except fans of Spyro. A good rule of thumb is to just research on the game before taking the critics' advice. However, any casual gamer is prone to being swayed by game reviewers to some degree.
You can't completely blame the critics however; the general consensus agreed among most people is that the Spyro series have been going on a downhill trend since Enter The Dragonfly, so I think the main question is: how willing are critics to give the Spyro series another chance? So far, I haven't seen many rave reviews recently - I'm guessing that they still won't hesitate to review harshly.
It's the reviewer's job to critique a game hard and fast. Since they do affect people's decisions on what games to buy, most games are closely scrutinized. Case and point: a person reading a review on a game that is highly rated doesn't want to be disappointed to find out otherwise when he actually plays - that's why critics can't be lax on reviewing a game.
I think Spyro gets a bad rep is cause hes a more kids game and its easy and mellow atmosphere. and the critics want more aggressive and challenging games.
In terms of gameplay, I don't believe that the critics want a harder game; TLOS: the Eternal Night is rather difficult for a lot of people. What I think is that the critics are looking for a completely different style of gaming. Perhaps they don't like the combative style of TLOS series. Perhaps they yearn for a more platform-based game like the original trilogy. And perhaps they simply believe that Spyro doesn't have much potential anymore - not really true IMO, but many players do feel that way.

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Bmah, you used enough "big words" to make my mind go crazy... anyway...
Critics really like Super Mario 64, and thats a kiddie game, and its not really THAT challenging.
Nope, critics like action games, its just TLOS IS repetetive.
Oh and i've seen Some critics actually give this game 8s and stuff, so thats why i think that it was recieved exceptionally well
Oh and Hunter Of Avalar, ET sucked cause of its stupid gameplay, not because of it not having a plot, you know how popular pacman was.

Yeah, just proves the point that an opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. Despite bad reviews, I'm still looking into getting a game from the TLOS series.

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
It really depends what type of game your into, If you really like something about the game, or really hate it
Most people here just bought the game for the plot, with me, its actually playing the game that counts XD

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Critics are seriosly overated. Mostly because ther're people like the rest of us, and different people, have different taste in gaming. It's quite natural for a person have subjecive opinion on a certain game series or genre.
I don't like shoot-em-ups at all, so I wouldn't be trilled to review one, but on the other hand, i LOVE platformers, and I just can't shake off that kinda opinion, because thats what I truly think of the genres.
Many reviewers are just like us, they may have a long history of gaming and reviewing, but in the end, they're just as subjective as the rest of us.
You can easilly review a game on the technical parts. How the camera? does the control work right? Hows the graphics? but I never EVER trust a persons review on the plot/storyline of a certain game, because its HIS opinion, and I may have a whole different view on the particular game.

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Well yeah, its just the critic's opinion.
And to answer the question in general, no, most critics have given this game a higher mark than mine so therefore, i think this game was given better reception than it deserves

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Well reguarding Spyro 3, Gamespot gave it a 8.4
But with Super Mario 64, they gave it lie a 9.2 or something
Spyro 3 was much better than Super Mario 64, And for some reason they gave spyro 3's sound a 7? And they gave Super Mario 64 a 10?
wth?, Spyro 3 had more variety of music AND sound effects, not to mention each character had there own unique voice....
Critics are really stupid but hell, if you want to know what a game is like, ask them, they would've helped me not buy zapper.
PS:ANB is selling here for $16 AU on the PS2 and $20 AU for the DS, this proves that this is not a really valueable game.... Ratchet and clank 1-3 still sells for $30!

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Familiar games such as Mario and co. is bound to get a higher score, which isn't necessarily fair but it happens a lot. Plus that, Super Mario 64 was quite a groundbreaking game for it's time, in terms of graphics, sounds, gameplay, etc.
And if you see a fairly new game in the bargain bin, then that's not a good sign.

Yeah, i hate how critics do that, And yep, i realise Super Mario 64 was revolutionary but that doesn't mean it is a good game, Pacman for the atari was revolutionary because it brought Pacman onto a home system, but it failed dramatically.
Yeah, no one likes TLOS and as i said, even a 6 year old game sells better

That would not be correct. The new game series has been a huge succes - it eccoes all over the official gamesites, eventhough the new games did get worse reviews than the old ones, but I'm sad to say, that I couldn't find the actual numbers.

Re: Spyro Vs Critics
Prices differ locally - and perhaps in Sydney, Ratchet and Clank is a lot more popular than TLOS. In which case TLOS will end up in the bargain bin at a lower price.
Official websites most likely reflects the statistics of North American sales.
i realise Super Mario 64 was revolutionary but that doesn't mean it is a good game, Pacman for the atari was revolutionary because it brought Pacman onto a home system, but it failed dramatically.
Super Mario 64 was pretty much deemed as the ultimate game for its time. Most people consider it as the "pioneer" for 3-D games in general. Pacman is different - people loved the arcade experience of Pacman, and this certainly changes when ported to a home console. It was revolutionary in the sense that it brought video games to the lives of many people (ie. video games become popular), whereas Super Mario 64 was revolutionary in the improvement of video game quality. You're comparing two different things.
