Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

Hey, all, just finished A New Beginning today (I don't own the game, I just merely rented it...beat it in about three days first playthrough)...

I was just curious to all those who bought or otherwise got it and beat it (more than once) and I was wondering....out of all of the things in the game you had, what would be your biggest gripe or complaint about the game?

Personally, I felt the game was way too linear and too short...I would have liked it to be more like the Spyro games for PS1, more open-ended and more focused upon exploration rather than Point A to Point B....and much more levels and areas to check out probably would have been a lot more fun.

That's just my personal opinion, however. Anyone else?

I don't like the saving. You have to get to a certain check-point where it auto-saves. I have had to do a part 3 times because of this. I don't like the game much. It is just too different, in my opinion.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

I haven't got the game yet (planning to ask for it for Christmas) but my expectations aren't very high. I don't think I'll like the combat very much, I'm going to miss the exploration and gems, I don't like the anthro Sparx and I HATE that they completely did away with Sparx's ONE JOB as Spyro's health indicator.

On the bright side, apparently it's a short game, so I won't have to put up wth it for long.

Bah, Spyro seems to be going even further downhill... maybe I should listen to those people on dA who said I should try getting my fan-game produced. *sigh*

Don't be depressed guys. I am working on the upcoming SPYRO: LOA: HEROES game trilogy which will be more like the original games then any of the current games.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

I can't find any particular gripes other than the game being really short.

i don't like the auto save very much either

They should have kept Sparx's health indicator ability

Spyro's charge is awkward to control

There needs to be a bigger variety of enemies.  They should have created a new horde creature for each world.  instead of hounding me constantly with those baboon gorilla things.

These are mostly minor gripes besides that last one.  I still enjoyed the game.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

Ž · I'm quoting myself from another thread, don't know if it's an entire on-topic message, but it's definitely on-topic in some ways...

Artemis the Ripper wrote:

[color=purple]Ž · Darn I have too many things to say about this game! Haha.

First and foremost, I have to comment about the control system. Some of the controls are pretty identical: X for jump, double x for double jump, hold x for glide, and there's the glide function too. I just wished they made square as the attack button, but who cares, square is more fitted to the breath attack. Oh and look, breath bomb unlimited for triangle, HAHA. Yeah *bleep* the triangle is so fun using when you got everything maxed out, makes your fury attacks look like trash LOL. Yeah, just think, mash Triangle and Square while Fire Element is activated and it's maxed out... HAHA, explosions everywhere. Next, the Fury button. I think this button is only for those who seem to have problems with action games and they're being swarmed, since I never used these unless I'm required to (training grounds), because that's where the bombs come in, haha. But I think they fluked somewhere in the charge button... you gotta be on a full stop before it activates! And yes, the wonderful L1, the sight lock. For those who are experienced with either Devil May Cry, God of War, or both, you may want to refer to this as the "lock-on system", as because you may also perform evade manuevers and lunge maneuvers using this. Just Hold on L1, point to a direction, and Press X. Kinda really reminds me of the typical A&A term, which was first used to mean Avoid And Attack, but now some use it as Arrest and Astonish. The square button fits prefect with it's role of being able to be used at almost anytime. No moves cancelled, LOL.

Gameplay. The typical action game. They did have flukes though. First and foremost, THE LIFE SYSTEM. There's gotta be a way to extend the lifebar, and there's gotta be a time where you only have a limited number of lives. Next, we have the evade system. Spyro responds too slow to the L1-left/right-X button combination to evade, and usually I still get hit on those. Oh yeah and too much flashy effects on the enemies and Spyro, BTW. And I just really hope that this game was seperated into missions instead of a straight storyline, just like Devil May Cry 3, so that we have time to earn for the powerups. Oh yeah, the powerups. Kinda new to see the purple gauge as an AP count... unique, I like it, even though it *bleep*s me off because I don't see a definite value.

Storyline? I haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure near, I'm at the volcano level right now, at the third save point. BUT YEAH WHEN IGNITUS ASKED VOLTEER "WHAT WAS CYNDER GOING TO DO WITH YOU?", I LAUGHED MY WAY OUT OF MY MIND BECAUSE OF A DIFFERENT THOUGHT THAT ENTERED ME, HAHA. Just wish that the levels were all too identical... well, they aren't really, but the enemies are practically the same... Why is it the 2 recent games I bought, namely this one and FF12, are full of cutscenes? Well, don't care much, sicne the storyline is worth looking at...

The gem system. Too bad that the only value you get is the AP value from the blue gems. I think they overloaded the game with too much Green and Red Gems... you can practically overuse your abilities and be in the middle of the swarm without a sweat. Lacked thrill, IMO.

Characters? I'm not complaining about it, at least it was talking fully about dragons LOL. Dragons are still my favorite creature... Spyro? I think they just fluked the front view, the nose was too wide. Sparx? Poorly done, and the voice doesn't fit him. Ignitus? HANDSOME. JUST HANDSOME. He really doesn't look like an old dragon, but I really feel for him since I think I know what will happen at the end of the game... I just hope I'm wrong. Volteer? Well quite unlikely to see a creature of a thousand words which is at the same time using those words in synonymous ways in one sentence just to describe one thing with one trait. Bah, never mind him. Cyril? I can't tell yet, he just seems to be a great dragon of wisdom. Ooh, now that's something I've been waiting for. Cynder? No I haven't seen her yet.

And I've got some facts about the powerups now that I'm almost finished...

Fire Breath 1 - A typically straight breath that temporarily stuns your opponent.
Fire Breath 2 - Wider vicinity, slight damage increase, magic cost reduced a bit.
Fire Breath 3 - So wide vicinity, damage increase becomes evident, magic cost reduced a bit.
Fire Breath 4 - Where the party starts, very wide vicinity and damage increase is great, magic cost becomes so low.
Fire Bomb 1 - A typical bomb used to just kill from long range.
Fire Bomb 2 - Explosion range increased, velocity increased a bit.
Fire Bomb 3 - Explosion is loud and wide, velocity remains like Fire Bomb 2.
Fire Bomb 4 - Where the party starts, not only does the explosion become so wide, loud, and have a lot of damage, but it also splits into 15 more fire bombs which induce more fireworks around the area and deal additional damage ROFL. I like spamming these on the field, magic cost becomes so low.

I'd like to tell more but I'm busy right now. I'll come back for this later.

EDIT: I told you I'll come back for this soon...

Because guess what!!!

ANOTHER PAIRING ROCKS THE WORLD!!! HAHAHA!!!

NO SERIOUSLY. JUST LOOK AT THE FINAL SCENE OF THE GAME! IF TWO MINDS THAT THINK ALIKE ARE 2 MINDS IN LOVE... THEN THAT MEANS THAT...

Oh how could I say it. It may be a darn spoiler so I can't really say it. Oh wait, what's the spoiler button for...

Hidden text

Spyro X CYNDER ROCKS THE DAY ROFL. I WAS PRACTICALLY ROBLing (ROLLING ON THE BED LAUGHING) YESTERDAY NIGHT BECAUSE OF THIS. JUST LOOK, CYNDER IS UNEXPECTEDLY A BEATUIFUL DRAGON CONSIDERING THAT SHE'S SMALL.

At first I thought that Ignitus x Dark Cynder was already forever, but now that I think about it... ROFL. SERIOUSLY. I COULDN'T GET THAT THOUGHT OUT OF MY MIND. I HARDLY EVEN WENT TO SLEEP BECAUSE OF ALL THE LOCOMOTION I WAS IN.

OK sorry for the capital letters and all, but... I COULDN'T HELP BUT ADMIT THAT I LIKED THAT.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

I like Sparx's voice but they could have done better with his redesign. I loved his quip about staying with the "llama people" if only because The Emperor's New Groove is one of my favorite Disney movies.

SpyroxCynder?  I don't believe this will happen (It is possible though) but it won't be long before fangirls start writing the fanfiction.
Its' obvious there will be a sequel so all we can do is wait and see.

I want to see faries in the next game.  Something like Zoe.  Or maybe  a faun creature like Elora.   Since this game is generations into the future of course it won't BE them.  But maybe a little resemblence.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

My only complaining is that this game is WAY TOO SHORT!
i'm not a gamer who can't beat a game in 3 days or so...and i did it; so that's pretty dissapointing.

Also, the story is "good" because it's development and the background music and all that but without all the enchantment is pretty predictable, i felt it like a combination between "Lord of the rings" and "Kingdom Hearts" and "Tarzan" (yeah, sounds weird, but being raised by another species is a SUPERB CLICHE nowadays)

They could have used that storyline, but with more "surprises"

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

Good chance there will be a follow up.  If only we could tell them to not be predictable.

To be honest I was expecting Ignitus to tell Spyro that Cynder was his mother.  Thank goodness that didn't happen.

Well unfortunately there is no relation.  And the SpyroxCynder lemons will soon be written. Even when there is no concrete evidence at all of a romance.  Or even circumstantial.

Why do people match up videogame characters? It seems rather odd to me.

The most irritating thing about the game is all the monkeys, especially those levels where the monkeys trap you in the "elemental walls." New enemies in the next game, please....

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

Well since a lot of people have said many things I would have, I may repeat stuff but here i go...

New Look- I liked the graphic upgrade, but Sparxs did not look like sparxs.

Battle System- I liked the Melee attacks and all, but the Gems should have stayed the GEMS and sparxs Spyro's heath bar.

Save Sytem- not their best idea to create a Auto Save/check Points. They should have made it as a Option.

The Story- I have not gotten that far, but what makes me made about the story is making games then making a game that tells Spyros back story and adding cool stuff like Melee atacks when there not in the others. I hate when game makers do this. As for the concept of this game; I hate it.

Plate Form System- what I dislike the most is they got ride of the OPEN world game that we all know and love. I liked the flying idea, but it need and could have been better. In my opinion this game is not a TRUE Spyro game; it's more like some 3rd party made it.

Overal Rating- I have not even finished the game (and I will), but this game is disappointing. I give it a No go Spyro game 2 out of 5.

Um... um... ah...

I HAVE TO READ THEM ONCE THERE IS ACTUALLY ONE OUT. ^_________________^ XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

*keff*Zekira*keff*

Ahehe, whatever. It's gotta be done sometime then, shouldn't it be. It occurs in almost all video games anyway FTW, and most of the time people like that can't be avoided...

Hehe, sorry for my foolishness, but it really... really... REALLY HAS TO BE:

roflaf4.jpg

FTW, can't stop actually making copies of this.

But really, one of the things I hate about the game is the redundancy of the enemies.

I wanted a "Four Elements Fury" or something after upgrading everything all the way. Also I prefer to save whenever, not just at a checkpoint...

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

1. David Spade could've been way funnier as Sparx.

2. Some of the script/dialogue seemed kind of boring and rote.

3. I thought it was very short.

4. Not enough gameplay variety. Besides the one flying level, it was all just repetitive bashing. There should've been more than one flying level too.

5. Too linear.

6. Convexity was too big considering it was just a boss level without any actual enemies.

Despite these things, I did enjoy the game and I thought it was good quality.

Just know that whatever happens to us...It wasn't my fault.

Re: Biggest Gripe(s) About the Game?

The only things I didn't really like about ANB were Ignitus' introductory training (it took WAY too long and I'd forgotten most of it by the time he finished) and Cyril. Man, I can't stand that dragon. >(

The second time I played through the game, it was a lot more fun because I knew exactly what to do and there was no flailing, struggling learning curve to deal with. big_smile
