I know what you're talking about, and I've wondered about those things too. I wonder if they have something to do with the skate park being an old gladiator training arena like Hunter said.

I guess it's either gladiator training material or something that insomniac was planning to use everywhere. Mweh, but that seems a little too... well, ya know, deep thought.
However, I always crash against them if I'm trying to spin them.

I've always been wondering about those poles too. Maybe they just are meant as obstacles... Or maybe involved in a secret skateboard trick that no one has found O.o
I believe they are just obstacles, though.
