I would not alienate Spyro because of the ties from the other 13 games. I would simply not involve myself anymore in the future games until I see the quality surface again. This situation is not bad enough for me to disconnect myself from new Spyro. And if I did disconnect, I could come back, just like when I left the games after EtD. What Spyro is doing now does not change what he did when Insomniac ruled the platformer world.
Uh-huh. . . So, if I read you correctly, your saying that because Spyro is surrounded by friendly woodland creatures teaming up against some ultimate evil that is threatening their world, is no different from AHT, and YotD? The motion of that yes, its no different, but how its done. . . yeah, that's where I see the problem. I got nothing against, Spyro having allies, but when its down from what they given us so far. . . I dunno, I really need to play the game.
I'm just not impressed from what I'm seeing. I hate to say this, but it looks like no matter what character you are, there isn't going to be a real dynamic change in gameplay. . . out of anything, Spyro, Stealth Elf, and all the other critters are just avatars, with a few little gimmicks thrown here and there.
If one can enjoy other platformers besides Spyro, than I don't see what the big deal is about playing a game that only provides a side dish of Spyro. I like french fries.

:-| If this game is designed well, then yes I can concur with that. We'll have to wait until September rolls around to see if this game has innovative gameplay or is just a gimmick.
All in all, I'm not the type of player / gamer that will buy anything that just has my favorite video game character slapped on to it just to gain attention.

I like the idea of universal save data. Now if my Sony fanboy friend and my Microsoft fanboy friend have Skylanders, I can continue my own Wii game data in their dorm rooms. I have a feeling this will be very popular in college. If I'm right, Activision needs to learn to better predict a target audience.

No, I'm not. The 6-12 year old kids of today were born between 1999 and 2005, meaning even A Hero's Tail is older than some of them, and Spyro the Dragon is older than all of them. I was 6 the first time I played a demo of the first game, and now it doesn't even appeal to any of my 10-year-old cousins, because they only know Spyro by his more mature LOS titles. If Skylanders really is a throwback to the classic gameplay style, I think the 1st generation Spyro fans will have more fun with it than the 3rd generation fans.

Eh, I'm willing to give it a go. I gave LoS a go, so why not this one too? Sure, it might not be 100% centered around Spyro, but oh well. It looks okay from what I've seen, that's good enough for me.

Re: "Judging the Book by Its Cover"
Jazz wore shades in his early game production, Agent 9 only had pupils, and Missingno of Pokemon Red/Blue was meant to be the unmasked Cubone/baby Kangaskan. Oh, and Spyro was meant to have the rolling ability from Spyro 1 in the first sequel.
I have a feeling a lot will change. I just hope they don't add Sonic and tripping ability, delaying the release date to March 9th (not that that has ever happened in a game with a 30+ character roster, with at least one of them being a well-established character.)

because it costs 70 dollars.
i'm all for giving things a chance / the benefit of the doubt, but not when seventy dollars are going out of my family's pockets. i strongly recommend seeing if there's a cheaper way to get this before you formulate an opinion, like renting, maybe...

Re: "Judging the Book by Its Cover"
Aren't pro-Skylanders people "judging the book by its cover" by "giving it a chance" just because it's a Spyro game...? I mean, would any of us care at all about this if it didn't have Spyro in it? Probably not. That's like the definition of judging the book by its cover.
So I think "judging" this game based on what we know so far (and I think I know enough to have an idea of what it'll be like) makes much more sense than giving something clearly made for young kids a chance just because it has Spyro in it.
If you think it looks fun whether or not Spyro is in it, fine. That makes sense, and this doesn't apply to you.

Re: "Judging the Book by Its Cover"
Everywhere on game articles of Skylanders, I spot hate comment after hate comment on the game, like 'This isn't MY Spyro!' or 'Spyro looks ugly, no way I'll get this game.'. When obviously, they haven't seen the finished product nor played the game themselves to completely judge it. It's like all that matters to some fans are the character designs of Spyro and the game developer.

Re: "Judging the Book by Its Cover"
Well yeah, judging it based on how Spyro looks is pretty stupid. But saying it deserves a chance just because Spyro is in it isn't any better.
You can tell if something looks good to you or not based on the plot, a trailer, samples of gameplay, and the age group it's for, right? Because we have all of that information. My guess is that most of the people who are judging the game see past Spyro's looks. They see that, based on all the information given, it doesn't sound like a good game. I've seen many good arguments against this game that have nothing to do with how Spyro looks.
Whereas people who cry "Give this a chance!" when people are (not without good reason) negative about it seem to only see that the game has a purple dragon named Spyro in it, therefore it must be worth their time.

Did you read my post? I never said character designs had anything to do with what makes a game good or bad. =/

Re: "Judging the Book by Its Cover"
If you say so. It just seemed like you were trying to argue that with me seeing as you repeated your original point right after I posted. Despite the fact that I clearly mentioned that I agree with that particular point in all my previous posts.
My point is that I don't think many people are judging the game by just that. We actually have a lot more than the "cover" of the character design you claim everyone's judging this game by. I for one could look past Spyro's design being ugly if the game concepts looked at all appealing to me, which it doesn't.
