A Unique Opinion

Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places (mostly Youtube and this site), but, to put it lightly, I don't believe I've found a whole lot of people who actually like Skylanders. But the thing is, I DO like this game. I think it's an interesting idea.

Maybe it's a little too expensive, but the game still has a good few months of developing left, so the price could drop. And Spyro's new model looks really different (mostly the face) but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's ugly. And no old characters will be in it, but we're getting a good 30 new ones (some of which I find more inherently interesting than others. Wow, look at that. A character who shoots water and another character that shoots fire).

I've also heard a lot of people complaining this game is a "scam" and Spyro was "thrown in at the last minute," but that doesn't even make any sense, does it? I mean, hasn't this game been in development for two years? And there are still a few months before its release date.

As for the cost, I've heard it phrased several times as "OMG guys u have 2 pay $500 to buy all the action figures and get the full Spyro experience!" That's like saying you have to buy all three Pokemon games and collect every single Pokemon in a Generation to have the full Pokemon experience. But when I play Pokemon I buy one game and form, like, a party of six.

Maybe I'm just more naturally open-minded than most gamers... I mean, I enjoyed Yugioh 5d's even though it bore little resemblance to the original Yugioh, I liked Crash of the Titans even though it completely changed the Crash Bandicoot gameplay, and, heck, I even liked Legend of Spyro, which by the way is OVER, the plot has CONCLUDED, and therefore any sequels would be like a fourth Lord of the Rings or an eighth Harry Potter. And really any LoS fans who complain about Skylanders being too different are being a little hypocritical anyways.  (Also Cynder will probably NOT be in this game. Quit asking.)

So after throwing all this negative mojo into the air, I'm moving on to the point of this topic. Namely, does anybody actually agree with me on this? As in, am I the only one who's really excited to play this awesome-looking game and am annoyed so many people are willing to throw it into the reject pile faster than you can say Yugioh Zexal?

Being open minded to the possibility of Skylaners being a decent game is one thing, but am I really the only one who thinks this will be a high-quality video game? The developers are at least confident enough to flaunt it around a few months early. I'm not trying to force people to agree with me, just curious if I'm not the only extreme optimist in the room who's saddened by all the rampant Spyro pessimism.

So yeah, just giving my two cents like every other person here.

And lastly... SKYLAND IS AN OXYMORON! HOW CAN LAND BE IN THE SKY? Sorry, needed to get that off my chest...

Re: A Unique Opinion

No you are not my good fellow fan.

I'm one of the few who is excited about this game, doesn't mind the character designs, and also thinks it's a bit re-donk-ulous about how many of the fnas here go on a severe RAGE RANT for all of the things you've said already.

Oh, and that Activision is the one publishing it, but that's not really all that important in my honest opinion.[/list]

Re: A Unique Opinion

I agree. The game sparked my interest the first time I say it. This is probably the Spyro game we've all been waiting for all these years. I can't wait to play Skylanders, mostly to try and play as the griffon, the water dragon, the feathered dragon, and lastly Spyro. :3

Re: A Unique Opinion

Unlike Aura, playing as Spyro is my FIRST priority, unless they decide to include Jazz Jackrabbit or a ThunderChicken.  Then I'd be really torn between the three.

Re: A Unique Opinion

Well, when I get the game, Spyro is going to be one of the few toys along with the Starter Pack, so I'll play as him first anyways until I get the others.

Re: A Unique Opinion

Okay, now that I've gotten the people who look foreward to this game together in one place, I declare dibs on creating silly internet memes for all the characters! For example, from now on we're going to treat Trigger Happy like a huge BA, even if he isn't in the game. TVTropes can explain what I mean:  http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M … eticBadass

Example:
"A lot of people used to not like Skylanders... until Trigger Happy came in. Now there are a lot less people who don't like Skylanders... *comedic beat* because Trigger Happy shot them."

I don't mind the new Spyro design, but it could be fixed.

Yes, but he shoots them with coins, so it's totally non-violent. Kind of like the Star Bits in Super Mario Galaxy.

I guess that rules out the possibility of Epic's green badass.  The IOS UDK demo was pretty gory.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I see the possibility that this will be the best Spyro game since Year of the Dragon, or dare I say better.

Haha, yeah.  However, most of Spyro's realms in past games exist in a high altitude world, so it's not that strange.

Jazz, that kind of sounds hypocritical.  You admit that you like other characters other than Spyro, but then you don't give the new ones a chance.  To cater to you nostalgia is understandable and some of the characters being introduced to the world through Skylanders may not compare to Spyro.  But they have at least the same potential that Jazz does (yeah, I just ripped on Jazz a little.)

Re: A Unique Opinion

I think this will be a good game. I was a bit dubious at first, but just because Spyro's ugly it doesn't automatically make it a bad game. After all, the backgrounds look fantastic. The only think I'm still unsure about is the whole toy-collecting thing.

Yeah, I'll probably just get, like, three toys or something then quit. If they end up being a little cheaper I might buy up to six and have a little Spyro party to sleigh monsters with. That has the potential to be fun if I have extra cash to blow...

Whoa there, let's not get ahead of ourselves! o_O  (Then again if so many people seem able to declare this a bad game just by looking at one trailer, I guess it's fair to do the 180 of that...)

Well not that this changes the game directly, but this game (though some people believe they are disgracing Spyro) has spent more time developing this Spyro than any other version of Spyro to date.  And they're not done yet.  YotD was superb, but I also understand that if this game reaches it's maximum potential, it may grab more fans for Spyro than the original trilogy did.  And gameplay aside, highest increase fan base since the series began would deserve the title "Best Spyro game" IMO.

I think I may have lost respect with this post among my fellow forum buddies.  Oh well...

I grew up playing Year of the Dragon, so this is probably just the nostalgia talking, but I personally will be really surprised is Skylanders ends up surpassing it. Although you're right that it has potential, so if it's a decent game that's marketed well, it may draw in more fans.

Ages, you say? It's just a ONE OR TWO MINUTE TRAILER so far! I mean, I can understand if you don't like the basic premise of the game, but don't you think you're exagerating a bit? I mean, I barely have anything to say about Skylanders at all besides speculation.

Actually, let me broaden that statement: There is barely anything to say about Skylanders at all besides speculation. Does anybody know when more info's coming out? The game isn't out until fall, right?
