Oh, no, I wouldn't quite jump to the conclusion just yet. The website is that of an environment artist, which is a bit strange in itself.

But if it is official, they're very likely to stick with that style- being that the page was only updated half a year ago, at least. And with the idea of Spyro's "Kingdom", starter/adventure packs, and possible Nintendo exclusivity, I think we can expect some big changes here.

Here's hoping we'll find out within the next few days!

When a company announces something they are commiting themselves to releace it. Until then they could just drop it without a word. I hope it happens don't get me wrong though.

I haven't been on this forum since the Spyro news drought started shortly after the release of DOTD. First off, Riverhippo, I love the first post you made in this thread, especially the italicized portion, all of it. What I've seen and read so far has this game looking grim, at least for me. The picture is already making this game look much closer to the 6 than the 12 in the age range. And action figures!?!?!?!? I could go reading around, or I could ask one of you kind folks to fill me in on the other details that I'm not yet privy to, such as the systems its on, universe its in, confirmed characters, etc. Much appreciated, thanks.

the picture could just be the spyro model placed in one of the game's levels. And it could also be from alpha or beta footage, or what eve platforms its been made for.

I don't seem to understand why so many people are quick to post negative feedback on this game. I'm ready to give this game the benefit of a doubt that it will be great. I see no reason to be sure that it will fail.

It doesn't look like these action figures are really "action" figures. They seem to have no moving parts.

Some reports tell hints of the storyline in the game saying that the characters are frozen in time and need to be placed on a portal to free them into the virtual world. Pretty creative really. But it does weaken a little bit the importance of having these figurines other than to make Activision money. They wont be easily counterfeited.

It just seems silly to have the figures at all. What's the point of them if you're over the age of 12 and don't play with plastic toys anymore? Not much. That's why it seems gimmicky and childish to me.

I mean, they could have just as easily have had the characters be unlockable through gameplay or story progression, but this is making you actually buy the toy to use the character, which I've always found annoying. Reminds me of Webkins or something.

But I do agree with Rurik that having the Toy Story writers is promising.

Silly yes, but look at Legos, Pokemon, etc. While this game does seem a bit, awkward, I am actually interested in the concept of collecting characters for this game. And the addition of collecting characters means they can always make new ones, meaning there is always something new for this game.

Yes, it is troublesome to actually buy the characters, but then again I could say the same for Warhammer 40, or something like that. If I would guess, each character would probably cost as much as a pack of trading cards, which wouldn't be that much.

I admittedly might be interested in collecting them if I didn't find them all so... ugly. Heh.

And what makes me think they might be expensive is the fact that the starter pack is going to be $70 with the game, the portal thing, and two figures. If it's $40 for the game itself, that leaves $30 for two plastic toys and an adapter thing. And that's in a starter pack, which is generally cheaper than buying things individually. =/

Not exactly Stormy. A starter pack may seem cheaper, but it wouldn't be since it has more things then just buying the individual thing. Take Warhammer 40 for example, you can either buy each unit separately for about 40-60 dollars, depending on what your getting, or you can buy the starter pack, which contains everything you need, units, vehicles, book, etc, but it costs around 80-100.

Probably shouldn't have said "cheaper." What I meant is the starter pack should be a better deal than actually going out and buying the game, two figures, and the portal thing separately. They cut the price down a little because if they add everything together for how much it would sell for individually, the price would be ridiculously high and no one would want to buy it. Meaning the two figures and a portal are probably actually worth more than the remainder of $20 to $30 left from the estimated price of the game.

But I'm just going to rent it or buy it used anyway, so I have no reason to worry about this. tongue

I doubt about the renting possibility, as most games that come with a piece of hardware can't be rented. But anyways guys, don't get your hopes up. The game just been announced and shown to the world, the figures there are most likely beta alongside the game, and things can change. My guess is that they wanted to show this game wherever they were demoing at (possibly some big game convention, I dunno), and didn't really have much time to fully develop Spyro and the other characters to their 'real' design. Its a case for some games, like Epic Mickey. It looked bad at first, but the final game was great.

You could be right; maybe they'll see people's reactions and decide to go for something different. But isn't this going to be released in the fall? They'd better get going if they're going to do that.

Hey, Epic Mickey was going to be released at an earlier time, but they delayed it. Same can happen here if they decide to add more omph to the game.

On a side note, I think using toys to add characters to games is a good concept, it hasn't been thought up before since the whole 'interactive playset' ideas that had you attaching something like a boat to your computer via usb cord. And I still wished I tried it out as a child!
